The House Ethics Committee has been investigating allegations that Gaetz may have “engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct.”
Gaetz has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, including ever having sex with a minor or paying for sex.
Committee Chairman Michael Guest said Wednesday the investigation will end if Gaetz resigns from Congress to become attorney general.
He’s just throwing out random jobs to his loyalists now.

It seems Trump is already getting annoyed by Musk:

I think it will depend on the polls.
Trump’s approval bounced up after the election. They’ll watch to see if it goes down. Folks, this is the one time you do not want to hang up if called by a more or less legitimate pollster!
Susan Collins also seems to have come out against Gaetz. So, depending on when they hold the vote, and if I understand this correctly, only one or two more no votes are needed.
This assumes that the recess appointment idea is dead. Probably it is, as, to my understanding, the recess can be indirectly filibustered by putting up an amendment. and Thune has said he wants to keep the filibuster. I suppose the GOP could change the rules to say that a recess cannot be filibustered, but the same GOP senators who will, with polling support, block Gaetz, would be sure to vote against watering down the filibuster.
Another sign that the Republicans may not rubber-stamp everything Trump wants; John Thune won the election as Senate majority leader though the “MAGA faction” (as the NYT puts it) wanted Rick Scott.
With Musk threatening to fund the primary challengers of anyone who dares not bend a knee, this whole ship is sinking fast. Let’s see if any of them have the slightest principles. I have many co-workers who believe that there is something known as “the cabal” that is running the country. Its supposed to be a big secret. They refuse to see what is happening right in front of their faces in broad daylight. There are no words. Idiocracy, indeed.

And you cannot be the sort of national leader Trump admires without having the power to arrest your enemies. And in America, that would almost certainly have to go through the Justice Department.
