It is of course true that actual facts are immaterial to any good hate-filled diatribe, but if anyone cares Ron Unz had a fairly good analysis back in 2010 in The American Conservative debunking the myth of high rates of violent offenders among Hispanics. His bottom line:
Unsurprising-the Mormons, despite their conservative politics, are quite collectivist in their culture and way of thinking and thus they naturally for whomever their leaders and superiors (like Romney) favour
The problem is that there’s not really any hyperbole this time. The issue is, we’ve said that stuff as hyperbole so often that people are immune to it.
For example, calling someone a Nazi or fascist is a common epithet. So when we talk about Trump’s fascistic policies, people ignore it. We’ve called smaller things racist, so it’s hard to point out blatant racism.
To be fair, we never thought we’d have a candidate that was this bad. We assumed Bush was the worst we could get. But the guy is Jesus next to Trump.
The issue is that the “alarmism” on the left is actually literally true for once. But we cried wolf too many times to be listened to.
Ironically although you are correct to denounce hyperbolic rhetoric of “fascism”, you are simultaneously calling the Donald by the same anachronistic ideological moniker. Do you think past American right-wing populists such as Joe McCarthy and George Wallace were also fascists?
The Republican National Committee chairman is saying having the most delegates heading into the convention doesn’t necessarily guarantee the nomination. While I’m in favor of anything that denies Trump the nomination, I have to wonder what the point is of having primaries if this is true.
Reverend Wright said some angry things about America. Gerald DeLemus was part of an active armed conspiracy against the federal government. How are you feeling about your earlier choice of the T-word now, Hank? Think Trump is going to repudiate DeLemus?
Well, maybe. Since Arpaio is under indictment for using the power of his office to intimidate and harass his political opponents I think I’d take the Maricopa County electoral process with a grain of salt.
The point of having primaries is for one candidate to win an absolute majority of delegates. What the RNC is saying is that a plurality of delegates isn’t enough. We actually have the same rule in presidential elections - if no candidate wins a majority of electors, the House of Representatives chooses the next president.
Yes, it’s horribly undemocratic, but this is American Democracy.
They’re not sending anybody. Trump is implying that there is some sort of Mexican government agency or something in charge of emigration, which is nonsense. Nobody is in charge of it but self-employed coyotes.
No, no, he did not mean “They’re rapists,” he meant “therapists.” Not many people know that at least 15% of Mexican immigrants to the U.S. in the past 10 years are psychiatrists, psychologists or licensed clinical social workers who volunteered to cross the border to help white Americans deal with the culture shock of their declining majority status.
