The work visa programs are so abused they should be terminated just as a matter of good policy. There are zero jobs in the US that cannot be filled by Americans and legal immigrants who didn’t come in through a work visa. The problem is that companies don’t want to pay.
So make 'em pay? Companies don’t always have to like policy yanno.
I agree with this, but I don’t see why 10% of black voters would change their votes because of it.
The point is that companies are R voters /contributors. And it’s the R rank-and-file who’re upset over immigration.
So the issue is a no-win for the R politicians. Whichever way they move they’re stuck pissing off one or the other set of their must-have supporters. Better to just mumble and hope the Ds don’t make this a central issue.
The tactic would be to get some number of Black voters to join in on bashing an other other. Could he pull it off without alienating the rest of his base? Would picking Carson as VP or at least as a prominent proxy help him in any way?
The people who are upset about H1B visas are almost all white and Asian-Americans, mostly in the tech sector. A skilled black tech worker would be in high demand as companies strive to make their workforce as diverse as possible. I can’t see H1B visas flipping any black votes to Trump.
I have a hunch those guys were a joke put on by some pranksters. Have any of them actually shown up to any Trump events?
They put right on their front a quote from Mussolini. If they were actual Trump supporters and were going to put an actual quote from an actual fascist leader, wouldn’t they go for Adolph Hitler? Particularly since most of their manifesto reads like it was written by an 8th grader?
In other words, a Trump supporter.

The presumption was that the other others would be Mexicans and Muslims.
So the R’s piss somebody off. It isn’t as if they have made abortion illegal, or made Obama a 1 term president. It’s politics- they just need to jerk the base around again until the voting is over, then proceed to do whatever the hell they want. Or pacify those R companies with giant tax cuts, fat military contracts, etc. The point is to win the election, not be logically consistent. And if president Trump follows through and lifts up poor urban youth in this way, the white racist base probably won’t be doing enough homework to even notice.
J-1 visas aren’t necessarily work visas - high school exchange students, for example, use the J-1 visas. Maybe we should eliminate overseas high school exchange students? Yeah, that will solve the inner city youth unemployment problem. :rolleyes:
Hell, I think it’s all foreign students. IIRC, the future Mrs. Siam Sam was on a J-1 visa as a graduate student at the U of Hawaii. I can assure everyone she did not abuse her visa or contribute to inner-city unemployment, nor did any of the other foreign students I’ve known.
But but she was unfair foreign competition in the dating pool and got you!
There’s J-1, and there is H1-B. The latter is specifically a foreign worker visa. My secondary cite of Trump’s website does mention J-1s specifically, but haven’t H1-Bs come up in the debates? All of the programs seem to get lumped together under “guest worker visa” rhetoric. I don’t think this is just all in my head.
Well, my previous stint in Thailand had already pushed my preference away from the local lasses anyway. Although there were some pretty cute Hawaiian girls running around, I’ll clue ya.
