Sometimes I think you just throw things up against the wall to see what will stick. Are you some kind of electoral anarchist or something?

Giuliani hasn’t stopped peeing his pants since 9/11, so whoever promises they will vanquish the evil Mooslims will get his vote.
Well, there are no easy pickings regarding quality Trump supporters, Hank Beecher had to scrape the bottom of the barrel and found a rapper that does think that Trump is a “shitty candidate that a shitty America deserves”.
Rudy Giuliani is better, but still close to the bottom of the barrel too. Giuliani once again demonstrates how valid is the old adage of “Tell me who you go with and I’ll tell you who you are”.
Trump is just following the Giuliani way, and Trump’s growing influence over FOX news also demonstrates how discredited the media is that he is walking with; many conservatives too are also finding that FOX news are indeed hacks and lovers of clownish authoritarians:
The only nitpick I will make here is that the conservatives at RedState are just figuring what was the situation all along.
Faux News ‘fair and balanced.’ Har.
Let’s see here:
New York of course is TRUMP’s home state and has an enormous ethnic Irish and Italian population in both the NYC metro area and upstate who have been overwhelmingly favourable to TRUMP’s message of populistic nationalism. It is this Catholic working-class/lower middle-class who makes up the core of Middle American Radicals who is the Donald’s natural constituency. Of course, polls here have him leading by overwhelming margins, exceeding 50% in every recent poll.
Pennsylvania has a large share of ethnics as well as well a significant Scotch-Irish population who also are naturally very responsive to TRUMP’s populist style. Not to mention Pennsylvania has been economically devastated by deindustrialization. One need only look at coal country around Pittsburgh to verify this truth. Similarly TRUMP has maintained a lead in all recent polling.
Everything I said about New York applies to New Jersey as well.
Now California is the most difficult case because admittedly it has undergone significant white flight and thus reduced significantly the number of white working-class and lower middle-class individuals which has strengthened the position of wealthier professional types in the remnant of the California Republican Party. Nonetheless if returns from Arizona and Nevada indicate anything, it is that any states with a large Hispanic population leads to a polarization of the immigration issue and in turn, to Republican voters supporting the most openly nativist candidate in the race-namely Donald TRUMP. Remember, this is the same state that passed Prop 187 two decades ago. Also the poll numbers have Donald in the lead.
I figure he figures Trump is going to win the New York primary – and figures that, if he declares for someone who loses, then whatever New York relevance he had is gone.
Okay, you’re kinda right. Kinda.
I think Trump will probably hold on to New York, mainly because a) Cruz so badly insulted the state, b) it’s Trump’s home state, and b) anyone who doesn’t like Trump will probably go to Kasich. Cruz is hoping to dominate in Upstate and Western New York, but that won’t be enough, and he’ll split with Kasich.
But I think that this is about as far as Trump goes. I think Trump could possibly win one or two other of the Northeastern states in which he’s been projected to do well, but Cruz will probably steal a state or two. And he will dominate the race as it heads West.
I found Banks in 2012. She is not just “a rapper”. She is a genius who has written some of the best lyrics strung together out of English words. Ever. Shakespeare was almost as talented (and his stuff is similarly crude and violent).
She never said Trump was a shitty candidate, she thinks he is a shitty person. She thinks being a shitty person makes him a better candidate. She thinks all of the candidates are greedy, petty, vain, egoists. So she wants the guy who is best at being that.
That’s my take anyway.
She is a lot like Trump. They are both successful people from NYC who have their views on American politics shaped by having traveled abroad. Both are over-the-top confident self promoters who effectively leverage Twitter. They are both assertive as fuck with similar tones. As she says:
“Pre-Madonna Mama, like a virgin
Private jets, my flights, no fly Virgin
I sell, you buy, that’s my version
Mommy tie these rhymes it’s my verses
Oh me, oh my
Illumina princess
Pyramid, one eye, on my assets”
And if you think that is a great endorsement you are sadly mistaken. BTW the complete tweet of her was:
http://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/267732-azealia-banks-inherently-evil-america-deserves-trump
So, yeah, I think my take that she sees Trump as shitty is closest to the mark. In reality what she is doing is logical coming from a set of voters that do want to see shit hitting the fan, the discordians. They are not really your friends, they want to see everybody have a bad time.
If I had ever thought you had any credibility whatsoever, you would have lost it with that statement.
It was a series of tweets, not just one. The last one: “In conclusion, I think Donald trump is evil like America is evil and in order for America to keep up with itself it needs him.”
A shitty person morally, but highly effective at operating in a constantly shifting and inherently unfair world, and thus the best candidate in Bank’s eyes. What if Trump’s ego is so yuuge that he has to make America great again just to feed it?
The lack of ideological thinking on this thread is stunning. Even after months of political success, people here (possibly due to many of them being oldthinkers having intellectually matured in the postwar American atmosphere declaring the end of ideology as outlined by men like Daniel Bell or somewhat later, the grandiose declarations of the “end of history” given by the likes of Fukuyama after the fall of the Soviet Union) still seem to see TRUMP as just a celebrity pseudo-candidate who is but a flavour of the month just like Herman Cain or Rick Perry in 2012 even after months of electoral victories in every region of the country. They fail to see that TRUMP has espoused a coherent vision of “radical centrist” populist nationalism since at least the 1980s and that he is leading an ideological revolution in a major party not seen since Goldwater’s “movement conservative” takeover of the GOP in 1964 and McGovern’s New Left capture of the Democratic Party in 1972. Instead they refuse to see History has indeed returned, that there indeed will be no Millennium of free trade Kantian utilitarianism and instead (perhaps somewhat more uncomfortably each time the Donald wins a new state) tune into John Oliver’s latest joke about “Drumpf” (that must be the most overhyped “joke” if it deserves to be called that in the history of humanity).
There are only five Western states left. California, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Montana. They represent a total of 295 delegates, and 172 of them are in California, where Trump is leading in the polls by about 8 percent.
The total preoccupation with ideological thinking in your posts is stunning.
Trump is the lucky product of a perfect storm of media opportunism, discontent by some blue-collar and lower-class voters, and a (very often) deluded and gullible Republican base.
Just for pure morbid curiosity, are there numbers? How many votes will Trump get in California, and how many votes with Clinton get? I feel a need to validate my blue-ness.
Shakespeare just as bad as TV, like Macbeth, too much gratuitous Saxon violence.
Did not said it was the only one, the ones in the cite do show that indeed Trump was the one she was talking about.
You really have no clue how the followers of discord think. I have seen Banks and others reporting that what they want to see is someone that will break things so much that the one following Trump will benefit many, as it will be one that will put the pieces together in a better way. (how many will suffer on the way to that is something that the ones that want to see Trump become the shittiest do not want to explain)
Discordians expect that then most will see how wrong it was to select a shitty candidate, and will learn a lesson. The problem with that idea is that history teaches us that it usually does not work that way in real life.
Actually I’m not totally preoccupied with ideological thinking, it’s just that due to the complete lack of it here in lieu of “Hur durr here’s another hilarious thing orange-haired Drumpf said! Haw haw!”, I’m forced to emphasize that dimension.
It is true that TRUMP was produced by mass discontent, but such discontent has ideological consequences, in others words they will support an ideology they perceive will correct their problems.
Qin Shi Huangdi: Walling off Mexico and banning all Muslims from immigrating isn’t centrist. It isn’t even Radical Centrist, unless you think Third Positionism is centrist, in which case I’ll thank you to lay off the Combat 18 or at least keep it out of the SDMB.
That said, sure, Trump has an actual ideological position. He is, in fact, speaking truth to power, talking about the problems of people who, apparently, aren’t supposed to have problems: (Poor) straight white males. I put the word “poor” in parentheses because it’s the key to all of this, but it’s so studiously ignored as to be practically invisible. Progressive politics is tied up with identity politics, and identity politics is tied up with race and gender identity and sexual expression, at least in the mainstream post-Reagan Left. The Right can talk about poverty without tying it to race, but the Right’s version of a Real Good Plan is “Rent a U-Haul, you lazy fucking bum!” Trump’s fantasies involve us returning to the Nineteenth Century of isolationism, protectionism, and immigration quotas, all the things we had the luxury of hanging on to for longer than we ought to have and all of the things we were ultimately forced to give up.
So it goes. So it keeps going. Maybe we need to turn back the clock to the Pre-War Labor Left, but if that’s going to happen it isn’t going to be done by Sanders, who can’t win the primary.
Trump doesn’t have a recognizable ideology. He’s a salesman. He’s just trying to sell his product. And satisfy his Jupiter-size ego.
