It’s illegal to call cell phones using automated dialer programs (a.k.a. robocalls). While this law is meant mostly to limit political and spam robocalls, it also affects pollsters who don’t use live interviewers (and it sounds like many pollsters cut back on live interviewers to save money).
A few articles from fivethirtyeight on the subject of why polling stinks now:
The reporter, Serge Kovaleski, writing for the Washington Post at the time, reported that some Muslims were being questions following allegations that they were celebrating. But the allegations were never about hundreds or thousands of people, as Trump claims, and no cooperation of celebrations ever surfaced.
When asked about recently, Kovaleski said that he’d never heard of hundreds of people celebrating. Trump lashed out at Kovaleski for challenging his assertions.
I think it is entirely possible that Trump is massively trolling the GOP. He has always enjoyed publicity, and this is a fantastic way to get his name in the news every single day.
He simply has to say outrageous stuff, and voila! News article appears and people are talking about him.
I would not be surprised at all if Trump announces in the next few months that his whole campaign was a joke, designed to show just how sad and disgusting the hard core Republican supporters are.
I think he’s going to keep pushing further and further to the extremes, to see just how far these GOP supporters will go before the “big reveal”.
I kind of wondered something along these lines when I learned that he had engaged in a long phone call with Bill Clinton just before deciding to run.
The problem is, it would mean that Trump set it up for several years with his talk about Obama’s birth certificate. Which would be the longest setup ever for a practical joke (unless Andy Kaufman really is still alive).
Surely the way around this is to do random polling of Facebook / Twitter / Instagram users in combination with the landline users. Cheap and easy and between the two demographics of social media users + land line users are you missing out on any significant population?
Trump’s support in the Reuters-Ipsos Internet poll has been bouncing around like a knuckleball thrown into a lively breeze. Meanwhile, his support per conventional polls has been pretty steady during October and November.
Also, even given that Internet polls show Trump having more support than conventional polls do, that 43% was an outlier even compared to the other Internet polling at the time. IOW, I didn’t give that 43% much credence when it popped up, and I’m equally inclined to disregard this alleged drop from a level of support he in all likelihood never actually had.
Trump may have seen these guys, on of several crews of Israeli nationals running around in vans that day.
The link is to a MSM site, so they gloss over a known fact while leaving out an important detail of course.
I quote the last sentence: “The fact of the matter is we are coming from a country that experiences terror daily. Our purpose was to document the event.” The words of one of the men arrested.
The problem with this is that they were setup to “document the event” before the first airplane hit. That is a fact, confirmed by eyewitness that reported them dancing and seeming happy. The link goes on to say it was looked into, nothing found. Nothing to see here they say.
So now, over 14 years later, Trump can go on national TV and say he saw Arabs or Muslims or whatever dancing in the streets in NJ, and everybody says that’s right, I saw it too. Even though this kind of thing was never reported back in 2001 as happening in NJ, or NY.
Real things that are known to have happened are not brought up at all now. Just another lie in a story of BS.
I, too, have wondered if the whole Trump campaign wasn’t a giant put-on. Because that actually seems marginally likelier than him actually believing what he’s saying.
Well, the reporter said Trump was wrong about there being thousands of Muslims cheering. And since everyone agrees that Donald Trump’s memory is terrific, that must mean the reporter is slandering him! Trump is just defending himself, you see. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
Thanks, a very important point. Everyone knows mocking the disabled is wrong, except if the disabled person wrote a negative article about your airline within the last 30 years. Then mock away.
