Trump's Republican primary campaign

I’ve also seen charitable speculation that perhaps he meant “shellacked.”

No it’s not brain surgery - and this is most likely exactly what he meant.

What is difficult to believe, and what causes total and absolute cognitive dissonance is that the most popular candidate on the Republican side would say such a thing - and then stand by the comment - even having the gall to defend it, rather than come up with some sort of semi-plausible excuse

I don’t personally know anyone who admits to supporting Trump, so it has all felt somewhat abstract up to this point. I was however bemused just now to see the comments on a local TV station’s news Facebook thread. They reported that a poll indicated fifty percent of Americans would be “embarrassed” if Trump became president; one-third said the same about the prospect of Hillary becoming president. Keeping in mind that this is a county that usually leans Repubican, but barely went for Obama in 2008, these are the first screen’s worth of comments, unedited except for my deleting people’s last names. But they did use their full names! Blows my mind:

Perhaps Trump represents the vanguard of a new, post-PC epoch. I mean, we did the whole post-racial thing already, so why not post-PC?

Here’s some essential reading for anyone wanting to understand the rise of Trump, and our current political moment more broadly:

Long, but a real tour de force IMO.

“Look, we finally elected a president who uses the n-word! [del]Racism[/del] political correctness is over!”

But his constituency is really not post-PC, they only say that for issues they support. What is the “War on Christmas” but a argument about what is the politically correct way to greet someone during the holidays?

I don’t speak Yiddish, so I’ll defer to your grandpa on the offensiveness of the term. I took it as something like “hosed” or “boned”, something I wouldn’t say in front of my grandparents or the CEO of my company, but not terribly offensive.

I don’t particularly care that he used the term. I find it a little unbecoming of a Presidential candidate (or an NPR reporter, for that matter), but then every single thing Trump says is unbecoming of a Presidential candidate. What bothers me more is that when he was called on it, he acted like it wasn’t offensive and everyone was just being a big mean hypocrite for saying it was. If he had said, “Yeah, it’s a dirty word. Sometimes I like to use salty language,” I’d probably shrug it off. But instead, he’s just behaving like a classic thin-skinned bully: acting like a jerk, then pretending he’s the one being treated unfairly when people point out that he’s a jerk. Yeah, let’s give that guy the world’s greatest military to play around with.

So, it was a racial thing? First I’ve heard that.

I’m pretty sure I’ve heard it in a Mel Brooks movie, so maybe it’s a generational thing.

Young Frankenstein. But not *schlong.
*

Because if it is in a Mel Brooks movie it couldn’t be vulgar.

By God better be, or I want my money back!

Quickly reviewing:

Any deletions you’d like to make from that list now? Or maybe an addition?

I really would like an explanation as to why Trump thinks that somebody going to a bathroom is disgusting.

Because he has no penis or asshole. He’s like a Ken doll down there.

Donald Trump only takes the biggest, most luxurious shits anyone’s ever seen. We’re talkin’ 14-karat here. The resale value is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!

Vulgar, yes, but not on a par with “cunt” as suggested above.

He’s spouted these vulgarities and then insisted he had no idea there could be a vulgar interpretation too many times to be believable. Not that I believed him even the first time.

Yep, he sure has a lot of shit coming out of all of his whatevers.

And to top it off, he’s so PC! You can’t imply that people are booing him, because he insists it’s cheering. You can’t imply that he’s not the best of the best, or he gets all offended and huffy and screeches at you. His tantrums get dragged all over Twitter, and his followers get offended right along with him, because it’s impossible for Their Hero to be wrong.

There’s a difference between going on the offensive and taking offense, and the modern GOP really only has the latter. That’s all they’re capable of: Taking offense at things, especially if they’re true.
