Trunk, which part of "stop hijacking this thread" did you not understand?

Thank you, Maureen, for being a voice of common sense in this thread. You said pretty much everything I would have.

I have absolutely no dog in this fight, but I would like to take this opportunity to address Fever: Please don’t let this experience chase you away from the SDMB. We’d like for you to stick around. After all, if you leave, we’ll never know how much you love us, never know how much you care…

I see people talking across each other, but there doesn’t seem to be nearly enough real, honest confusion to justify it. Rather, there’s just a false connection between the truth that “I have a right to be angry” and the utter falsehood that “therefore I may speak and write and generally behave like a profane and diarrhetic chimp with three arms, a leaky diaper, and a keyboard in order to relieve my hurt feelings.”

And by the way: sorry about the TV show and all, but I have a hard time imagining someone managing to spoil, say, Macbeth by describing the plot to me.

Can anybody here tell why they think one of the ads at the bottom of the page is for the “The Gay Quiz”?

…is that part of the quiz?

To be fair, if Macbeth were 65 hours long and took 5 years to watch, and someone blew a major plot point to you at hour 60, you don’t think you’d get peeved? Trunk got warned for his freaking out in CS. Fever apologized to us, I apologized to her, we now all know what “open spoilers” means and doesn’t mean. So that’s that, but I wish you didn’t have to make false analogies to illustrate your false connections.

5-4-Fighting-- maybe it’s because Omar is gay? I dunno.

To be fair, if Macbeth were 65 hours long and took five years to watch, even a genius like Shakespeare couldn’t have made it interesting. To be fair, I never said I couldn’t get peeved: I merely said that I hope my pique wouldn’t delude me into thinking that acting like a blue-tongued, spoiled child was a good idea. To be fair, if your own apology, and your acceptance of Fever’s apology, were at all sincere, you wouldn’t be worried about my analogies right now.

Fever did something wrong. Be nice anyway. Or I’ll tell you how the big story ends.

I know LOL’s aren’t done at the Dope, especially in the Pit, but LO-fuckin’-L anyway.

Macbeth dies.

Nooooooooooooooooo!

Shockingly, some people don’t do a bunch of research before posting on a neat message board they just found. They say “Hey, look at this board, this looks fun.” Then they say “Oh! A thread on my favorite show! I had a thought about something coming up, let me post!”

If I had just found the SDMB, I would look over the ToS when I signed up but I wouldn’t think to search for previous threads on the show, look at other threads to find out what people meant by spoilers, read the info on how to read the spoiler tags, etc etc etc. Fever made a newbie mistake, got chastised for it, got her shit jumped all over for it, apologized, got accused of being a troll and a jerk, apologized AGAIN, and still people are frothing.

I know that it really, really sucks to have something unexpectedly spoiled for you like that. I understand getting angry and frustrated. I don’t understand continuing to foam at the mouth after mod actions have been taken and the newbie has apologized.

Plus, now Fever has a pretty ugly impression of this board and its treatment of people with low post counts. Anyone new to the board is automatically assumed to be a troll. Stay classy, SDMB.

All of my internet access is through a blackberry, so the spoiler tags don’t even work for me. I see everything. :frowning:

I apologized for calling her a troll, though it has since been brought to my attention thatmy posting the OP as ‘The Wire "Thread title "(open spoilers)’ was sufficient to disallow the kind of spoiling that happened in this thread. So it wasn’t actually my fault, nor was the spoiler posting legitimized due to inaccurate spoiler warnings in the thread title. A n00b made a mistake, not knowing the signage around here, but I don’t think I should have to bear any responsibilty for the spoilage that ensued.

Being as nice as I can be while still feeling a bit put out. As for telling me how the “big story” ends, better put it in spoiler boxes, tough guy.

Just FYI, I am a fan of The Wire but my work schedule isn’t, so I haven’t seen that episode yet. And I have been avoiding threads about it for that reason.

However, foolishly, when I opened this Pit thread that doesn’t say anything about The Wire in the title, nor in the OP, I followed the link in the OP to the thread and got an eyeful of spoilers without even trying!

SPOILER ALERT!!!

You die. The sun comes up again the next day. Eventually, those who love you get over you. Some time after that, you get over yourself, and then the rest of the world follows suit.
Somewhat later, I get over myself, because I’m only slightly more egocentric than the rest of the planet.

No it doesn’t. Orbiting the stationary sun at 106 768 km/h, together with revolving on its own axis at approximately 1669 km/h (at the equator), the earth slowly turns and …

:stuck_out_tongue:

As stationary as something orbiting the centre of the Milky Way can be, that is…

(why yes, I did purposely leave additional room for other nitpickers to nitpick. Aren’t we Souff Effricuhns nice?)

If they had any perspective, it’d say “banned” instead of Charter member. under your name. You got off easy, dude. I understand your anger, but it’s a fucking TV show and they warned you over and over.

So, in previous threads we’ve learned that traffic laws and drug laws don’t apply to Trunk, because he says he’s a big boy and smart enough to stay out of trouble. But when he has his day ruined by reading a spoiler in thread marked “open spoilers” he throws a tantrum and runs crying for the mods to ban that big bad Fever.

Hi Fever,

Welcome! Sorry that your first experience here was so ugly. I appreciate your apology and I hope that you’ll stay, despite the name calling and ugliness in the thread.

I made a mistake as a newbie and I hid away for quite a while. Some people are just mean sometimes, I think. No one is an idiot for not understanding all the rules of a society and I think it’s rude that you’ve been called names because of a misunderstanding.

Please stay.
