Wishing you all the best, drop. Kicking an addiction is a bitch. Tell that bitch to fuck off. You got this.
If you need support this board is full of supportive people, and I’m happy to share! Smoking is a bitch and two thirds to quit and I don’t recommend what I did, which involved walking pneumonia.
Shayna! Long time no talk. How have you been?
You are doing great dropzone! Keep at it. Sounds like you are doing this for yourself, not just to please others, and that’s often the key. Maintain the inner strength that got you this far, fight back, you can win!
A problem I have with AA is that they deny that inner strength, making recovery all about placing yourself in the hands of a Higher Power (Jesus, but they’re supposed to be nondenominational). I got spoken to because I told some noobs that they have the strength inside them without Him. Not the party line but, like me, they weren’t believers. What were we supposed to do with them, throw them out?
Yes, as a matter of fact, though the judge who sent them would not be pleased. I was called a leech because I drew strength from the group. It takes all kinds to make AA, including some jerks. And if you were a jerk drunk, chances are you’ll be one sober.
AA is definitely not the only way to do this, but it’s the one everyone thinks of. I was thinking about this the other day. Smoking is an incredibly hard addiction to break, but as far as I know, no one is sending smokers to a 12-step group (I was wondering why not, actually, if that works for some people).
Ain’t that the truth?
You sound so much more at ease.
