Does Sons of Norway operate any local shops/restaurants? My aunt is a member of the SoN in Milwaukee, which is more of a hall, but maybe it’s different in other parts of the state.
Edit: Looking at this list of locations, it seems unlikely to have been an official SoN location.
Was it near Ripon (a college town, but rather small)? My sister-in-law had her wedding rehearsal dinner at a place very much fitting your description. I honestly cannot remember the name.
Unfortunately, it is no longer there. Well, the buildings are still there, but it is no longer a Scandinavian restaurant. I think it’s a pizza place now.
Sorry, I couldn’t edit my previous message. It was on Hwy 23, closer to the town of Green Lake than Ripon. The pizza place is called Christiano’s Pizza.
The only non-mentioned place that comes to my mind would be Little Swiss Village (picture at link). Near Minocqua, rather far north. Obviously Swiss not Scandinavian, but memories are jerks.
Closed a couple years ago, I believe. Had a decent restaurant and a gift / cuckoo clock store. The restaurant’s main gimmick was that they had a little toy village laced with peanuts to encourage chipmunks to frolic around.
Westby is a tiny town off of state highway 21. It’s near, but not off of, I-90- maybe 20 or 30 minutes? It’s a very heavily Scandinavian community- with a great cheese presence I’m not having any great luck finding photos of what you’re looking for, but that’s not really my stong point.
Ole went to the Sons of Norway Hall one night and finally won the door prize, which was a toilet brush. He was so excited that he won he brought it home and used it often. Someone asked him during the next meeting what the prize was and if he liked it or not. Ole replied, “Yea I like the toilet brush, but I think I’m gonna go back to using paper.”
Ole is on his deathbed. The doctor has told him he has only a few hours to live. He catches the scent of his favorite cookies wafting through the air. With all the strength he can muster, he drags himself into the kitchen and sees a fresh pan cooling on the rack. He cuts one out and bites into the scrumptious cookie. Lena comes in, smacks his hand, and says, “Shame on you, Ole! Dese are for after de funeral!”
See, now that sounds like you were in Bumfuck or maybe North Bumblefuck. Both are just on the East-western outskirts of Westby, Turtle Lake, Park Falls, Antigo, and Superior.
