“…their restless and nihilism were caused by natural science courses, and fortwith all science was eliminated from the cirricula of the lower schools…”
-The Tragic Dynasty
During Alexander II. How did they arrive at this conclusion? Is this an eighteenth century thing, a Russian thing or a Romanov thing?
Was there a belief by the Czar (Alex II or predecesors) that
education in natural sciences promoted ‘restless and nihilism’ amongst the masses, and, if so, from whence did this belief originate?
I think Darwin is going to end up getting blamed for the Russian revolution. Poor guy.
I must be the only non-Scotsman alive that LOVES the sound of bagpipes!
tsarina, who only answered this thread because it had the word “tsarist” in the title, which makes it even more ironic that she doesn’t know the answer to the OP.
Lemme rephrase my question, musical instruments aside…
A Scotsman sat up late one night in his cups and asked the musical question “What kinna make that’ll really piss ev’ryone off?”
But I digress.
Why did the Autocratic Alexander II and his minions think that natural science courses made young people subversive? We could have avoided the whole Kent State thing.
