TubaDiva, are you kidding me?

It was not a joke, it was a deliberately provacative act aimed at me.

You see, Colibri, what brownie55 was doing there was not so much calling for a warning but pointing out that our rules are couched in such subjective language and applied so indiscriminately that no one can really tell what behavior is proscribed. One can no longer differentiate between ribbing and insults; talking about the rules and junior modding.

For this “offense” of pointing out problems with the SDMB rules and their enforcement by the modes, you—and it had to be you, Colibri—gave him an admonition, revealing that you don’t quite understand what this particular forum, ATMB, is all about.

And it’s obvious that this mod note you gave him originates in his criticism of your friends, Arnold and xash, and not any real worry that someone might mistake him for a moderator. I’d use a specific word here, but I’d hate to instigate a knife-fight.

Well, sheeeee-yit, Irishman. Wait till you see what the big, bad world has in store for us.

Toughen up.

Unless I missed it, no moderator in here has said that. I was just offering my opinion, but I’m not a moderator here.

You mean, only people on one side of the issue should be allowed to offer their opinions?

So what’s the solution? Not have a no insults rule? Or allow the moderators to use their best judgement, and then have another slew of “Inconsistency in moderation” threads?

I think a great solution would be for everyone to stop fucking crying about what the Mods do and don’t do. I can’t go three threads without running into this shit.

Even better, can we have a sub-forum of ATMB just for complaints about Mod action, and can you also block it from showing up in the “New Posts” search? I’d pay $5/year for that.

What (s)he said. While I do find some of the whining and butthurt posts amusing, I sometimes wonder why some of these people bother staying here if they hate the way the board is run so much.

Not at all.

Yes, the solution, in my opinion, is to not have a “no insults” rule. If not, all insults, no matter how mild, have to be actionable. A middle ground doesn’t work.

So what, exactly, was your basis for asking for a warning for Arnold? Or was it merely trolling?

Is this an official question?

Irony!

For the lulz.

While I don’t agree with the people who are attacking the mods, I don’t think that we should just expect them to leave if they don’t like the way things are run. You can like the content of the board and its posters without liking the small minority who run things.

It’s comparable to the superpatriots who like telling all their detractors “if you don’t like how things are done in this country you can geeeeeet out!”

Yes. Please indicate to me exactly where you think Arnold was “junior modding,” and explain how it differs from the statements by other posters in this thread. Publicly accusing another poster of a rules violation and requesting a warning should not be undertaken gratuitously.

To me, it’s a matter of tone. I could link to the posts, but you won’t see it. As has been said many times on these boards, tone is hard to get from text. I can see where you would have an entirely different reading from the same messages.

I will say that the use of the phrases like “I am not a moderator here, but…” which is used twice in this thread, is meant to remind us of his former mod status, and is probably a trigger for me.

That said, because I disagree with a position does not mean I want a warning issued for every person on the other side. There are plenty of others on Arnold’s side of the argument and I suggested no warning for any of them, hence my response to him.

I don’t think accusations of trolling should be made gratuitously either.

In other words, your accusation was complete bullshit.

It wasn’t.

I would be curious to see how many posters here would think we need to get rid of the “no insults” rule for all the forums. My guess is that a great majority would think it’s better to have forums where insults are not allowed. I would be willing to bet money on it.

What the majority of posters want? When has that ever been a consideration? You didn’t ask me what I thought most people wanted. You asked me what I thought. How is this even relevant?

I don’t happen to think that the staff here make major decisions without considering the reaction of the posters. But if you think so, you are entitled to your opinion. I’ll just say then that IMHO allowing personal insults in every forum is a bad idea and will make conversations in GQ or GD unpleasant to participate in.
