Tucker and Dale vs Evil (closed spoilers)

This is a nifty little moviethat should really appeal to anyone who liked Cabin in the Woods. And anyone who has seen a few teens vs slasher movies should enjoy it. I know it’s been mentioned in some threads, but I thought it deserved its own shout out. It’s available to watch instantly on Netflix.

I suggest not looking at any descriptions or the trailer, just go watch it. You need to have a stomach for some gore, and you should know that the movie plays around with some standard tropes. That’s all the foreknowledge you want, I think.

Oh, and it has Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dollhouse), Tyler Labine (Reaper), and Katrina Bowden (Ceri from 30 Rock - it’s weird to see her emote!).

I really liked the point when they switched POV, and Tucker told Dale to go talk to Allison, coaching him on what to say, and to laugh to show confidence, then Dale walks over with a freaking scythe in his hand, says, “You going camping?” and laughs in the creepiest way possible.

Yup, loved the subversion of the usual expectations, and there was a ton of humor, plus some pretty explicit (but not overwhelmingly so) gore. I’m not a fan of gory horror films, but enjoyed this.

I appreciated that the film portrayed the leads as being smart, merely socially awkward, and to act much more logically than the panicky, mean outsiders that came for a vacation. It also did use the major social awkwardness of one of the leads to set some of the misunderstanding in motion, but then proceeded to show that talking would clear things up, at least for the female lead.

Just watched this a couple weeks ago, and it’s really, really good.

I love this film. I thought it was gory/cute. I agree about Katrina Bowden.

So much so that it wasn’t until my second viewing of the movie that I even recognized her. She looks the same, but is able to act like a completely different person. I’d like to see her get more roles.

Love this movie! It’s done so well and is hilarious!

Another thumbs up from me.

I first heard about this from Leonard Maltin discussing it on a podcast. He raved about it and said that he’s shown it to his USC film class twice (hopefully to two different classes).

Anyway, add me to the list of people who loved it.

I browsed around it on Netflix for weeks before I decided to give it a shot. I loved it, great movie. Funny and twisted.

Awesome, awesome film. But I’m in love with Alan Tudyk, so it was a given that I’d see this.

I really liked it too. This is what parody movies should aspire to, not the unfunny Scary Movie etc. stuff.

This, like my other favorite parody films Young Frankenstein and Shaun of the Dead, has both a clear affection and well-read (-watched?) knowledge of the genre, as well as a story with heart. I think part of what makes this work is that the characters are so genuinely likable, not just paper cutouts used to set up mocking scenarios.
