Tucker Carlson’s logic fail

Indeed, he does. Usually though, after he has made perfect sense on some issue or another, he immediately follows it up with a whopper full of bullshit. But like a broken clock, sometimes he is right at least once a day.

I unnerstan. Iss downright tough to say, like ole prezzi-dint o’bama. Rimes with bama. Roll tide.

People mispronounce names all the time. This is tempest in a teapot.

Eh… strike “often”, replace with “occasionally and accidentally”.

This board is filled with tempests in teapots.

So, what’s the usual response when someone mispronounces a name? Is it to go on a rant about how you’re not allowed to criticize someone, or is it to apologize and accept the correction?

Shrug …I’m not the polite police. Do I think he should have apologized? Probably. But I’m not his parent. I don’t see a HUGE debate here.

You’re the one who decided to participate with your near non-sequitur of Joe Biden also mispronouncing her name.

Can we at least agree that Carlson is a disingenuous asshole for getting all offended about being corrected and saying it somehow means she can’t be criticized?

Well, I just stated a fact that Biden mispronounced her name too, corrected it and moved on. Everyone Here are saying Carlson is a sexist bigot because of how he reacted. I don’t see the big deal. But then I’m not hyper sensitive about it.

Well, you can lead a horse to water, as they say.

If you watch his show, please report back and see if he’s corrected himself. Thanks!

I said Biden corrected himself. I am not going to clutch my pearls because Carlson doesn’t,. I DON’T care. He is who he is, watch him or not. But this mispronouncing Sen. Harris name is not an issue. Wouldn’t it be what her record is? Etc…

You calling me a horse?.

Right. It’s not that he mispronounced it. It’s not even so much that he wasn’t thrilled to be corrected–that’s human nature. It’s how he went on the offensive, absurdly claiming his mispronunciation had anything remotely to do with “holding public officials to account”. Like his repeated mispronunciation (even after being corrected) made him some kind of noble free speech crusader. Total bullshit, and I say that as someone who is probably more of a free speech crusader than almost anyone here.

What struck me most was Carlson’s very first reaction–before he started ranting about “holding officials to account” and “you’re not allowed to criticize her” and all that nonsense. His immediate, gut response to being told he was pronouncing her name wrong was “So what?”

He is so contemptuous of Kamala Harris that even the basic human courtesy of pronouncing her name correctly is something that he doesn’t care about, and can’t imagine why anyone would.

I think every guest on his show should start referencing him using a long U sound (since using F instead of T will get bleeped). Then get all offended when corrected and ask why Tooocker is trying to shut down debate.

Actually, you didn’t.

Admittedly, my sample size is small, but I can’t say I’ve seen it.

That’s definitely the smarmy douchebag routine he’s got down to an art. But I would just shrug it off if he left it at that. Like “Who cares how we pronounce people’s names? It’s trivial, let’s talk about real issues.” I’m not saying I personally an argument I would make or that I support, mind you. But I think it’s an argument you can make, that’s not totally out of bounds. It comes down to a matter of opinion, or taste.

Acting like correcting him on the pronunciation is equivalent to saying Harris should be immune from criticism, or that by mispronouncing her name he is “holding a public official to account”, though, is just not even arguable. Totally specious, absurd on its face.

Well la-dee-fuckin-doo.
