Walking around Seattle, I see many tourist-looing men who tuck their T-shirts into their trousers or jeans or shorts. May it’s just me, coming from California where things tend to be casual and weather tends to be hot, but this just looks ‘wrong’. If you’re wearing a T-shirt without a proper shirt over it, then I think you’re bing casual and it should not be tucked.
I was having this exact conversation with a guy friend the other day. He says tucked in looks geeky, I said it looked neater. He - California, I’m originally from Texas, ftr.
Ugh, untucked please. Your dad tucks his t-shirts in. Into his dad jeans. With his dad sneakers.
T-shirts only get tucked in when they are under a button down shirt that is tucked in.
As did James Dean.
If I had my druthers, I’d probably tuck in a T-shirt (unless I was hot and I needed some ventilation). But since the gods of style have dictated that tucked T-shirts are uncool, I don’t tuck mine in (unless I’m using one as an undershirt).
Big-bellied guys with untucked T-shirts look pregnant to me.
I only tuck mine in if I am wearing something over it and it is cold outside.
Huh. I always tuck in, never even thought about it. Maybe that’s a Canadian thing.
I was going to agree with your guy friend, but I don’t think ‘geeky’ is the right adjective. To me, it looks like someone who doesn’t know how to be casual trying to be casual. It looks like he’s trying to fit in, but he was still dressed by his mother.
Who lived half a century ago, and who is now dead.
is this a dress t-shirt or a casual t-shirt?
I assume a ‘dress T-shirt’ is one intended as an undershirt, as opposed to a ‘T-shirt’ that is usually not white, or has a logo or design on it.
Tucked in. It probably is a generational thing.
Sometimes tucked, sometimes not. Depends on the shirt, the pants, the environment, the activity, the time of day, and numerous other factors. The answer is: It depends on the circumstances.
If you don’t have love handles, why untuck like all the guys who are trying to hide theirs?
But never tuck any shirt into shorts. Even the UPS guys don’t do that.
I can’t answer the poll because in my mind as long as your neck and arms protrude from the appropriate holes and the shirt itself is long enough for societal definitions of enough, you’ve used the t-shirt correctly. Tucked or untucked is a style choice.
I always tuck. I hate the feeling of my trouser waistband without a layer in between.
Likewise. I suspect I’m just fussy that way.
What kind of man pees on tourists?
Didn’t notice that one. More than one typo in the OP.
we look pregnant when we tuck them it too. Sorry about that.
