"Tummy ache" from eating too much - Is this common or rare?

A mundane question but one I am curious about.

One always hears stories of people (most often kids) that ate too much at picnic or amusement park, and got a ferocious tummy ache. I’ve eaten too much at numerous times in my life to the point I was absolutely stuffed, but despite the stuffed “logy” feeling I never got a “tummy ache”, and I don’t recall anyone in my family getting a tummy ache unless they had the flu or other illness.

Are tummy aches from overeating common?

People feel and define pain in vastly different ways. When I overeat, I feel uncomfortably full but rarely feel in any real pain. For me.
Kids may feel full to the point of nausea and that “something’s not right” sense you get before you vomit may be scary. Fear heightens one’s perception of pain, both the intensity and duration.

Too much sugar/salt can cause cramping, especially when doubled with not drinking enough water due to unavailability and sweating due to being outside all day. I don’t know for sure, but that gets my guess.
