Tuna and Dolphin Weight

How much does a tuna weigh? How much does a dolphin weigh?

What’s a henway?

A Yellowfin Tuna can weigh as much as 400 lbs.

The largest dolphin is a Killer Whale which can weigh as much as 8,000 - 12,000 pounds (3600-5400 kg).

Bluefin and Yellowfin tuna can get up to a couple of hundred pounds and on rare occasions somewhat more. Albacore easily get to nearly a hundred.

Dolphins are quite a bit bigger than tuna which they eat with gusto. I’m not sure but looking at the size of them, 10 to 15 feet long, I’d guess 500 lb. or maybe a little more.

The record for Bluefin is actually ~1,500 lbs. They can get truly massive and are one of the largest bony fish ( i.e. non-shark or ray ) around.

Wow!

Here’s a couple pics I found… pic1pic2

The size of tuna is sort of puzzling. Tuna school and the fish in schools are usually all pretty much of a size. This leads to the conclusion that there are schools of 1000 to 1500 lb. tuna swimming around.

Unless when they reach such large sizes they are loners or the occasional big one hangs around around schools of smaller fish and takes advantage of their hunting.

Apparently, they school:

Here’s the fish.

Also from the article, “The current world-record, a 1,496-pound bluefin tuna, was caught in 1979 off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.”

I’d swear I’ve read that marlin can go to 1500 lbs or more, but what I find when I search are more like 500-800 lbs. Is the bluefin the largest “gamefish”?
