tupperware

can i buy(preferrably online)tupperware containers that don’t absorb colors or odors and can be microwaved, dishwashed, and frozen and that has a lid that is completely sealed and that locks on so that it can not come off when dropped or shuffled around with? if so do you guys know where.
p.s. i’m really into making tons of food and putting it into these continers then taking them to go whereever i go but i have had some problems with certain food staining them and the lids coming off when they are in my backpack during class at BCC causing the whole class to be disturbed due to the strong odor being emitted from my backpack lol

and also does any of you know of any reasonably priced vacuum system where the individual tupperware containers can be vaccum sealed in order to preserve food for long periods of time
this has been a really big problem because i moved out of my parents house 6 months ago and i am a big health nut so cooking decent meals 4 times a day and having to be at home to eat has been really inconvenient since im always on the go so any way to cut down on my cooking time and frequency would be a BIG HELP.
vacuum packing premade meals would guarantee the freshest food and would make what i did cook last a lot longer. anything would help thanks

Sorry guy, there is no perfect tupperware. Tomatoes are notorious for staining plastic. I’ve heard that lining your plastic containers with veggie oil will keep tomatoes from staining, but I’ve never tried it.
You might want to consider one of these vacum powered food sealer whatnots if you’re looking for an impervious food sealing contraption. Only works if you eat all the food once you open the package, though.

Rubbermaid makes a container (Stain Sheild, I think) that’s advertised to resist tomato based stains. The best “tupperware” is really made by Tupperware, though, in terms of warranty and lids fitting, etc. They’re supposed to be stain-resistant, but a good tomato sauce really is hard to keep from ruining your plasticware.

My mom used to use one of those Food Saver vacuum things, not for the jars so much but with the bags. It saved us a lot of money on cheese, certainly, and it did work well, but we didn’t use it as much as we could have.

Here’s a link to the new Rubbermaid Stain Shield that Zsofia mentioned.

My aunt has it. Can’t attest to its claims (haven’t seen her in a while) but they DO have a lifetime warranty, so…

I have the Rubbermaid Stain Shield containers in several sizes and they do resist most (not all) stains. Interestingly, starchy items can change the appearance of the plastic moreso than tomato based products, so you can store and reheat your pasta with sauce without a problem more than your pasta on its own.

The only caveat I’d add is that I don’t know how well the lids would stand up to being knocked around, say just thrown into a knapsack or something. They’re pretty solid-fitting lids, but they have a nice wide lip that makes it easy for them to be removed by hand and that also makes it easy for them to be knocked loose if that lip catches on something in your bag. If they were kept in a lunch bag or somehow left reasonably unmolested and upright then they should be okay.

For something that you can pop down to the grocery store and grab off the shelf, my vote goes to Rubbermaid.

Lids stay on (just be sure to match the number on the lid to the dish), and they’re durable enough to go from freezer to microwave. Every other store-bought brand of plastic food storage things I’ve tried either melted in the microwave, or warped so badly in the dishwasher that the lids no longer stayed on.

We switched over to Pyrex containers. Since they are glass, they don’t stain regardless of what is in them. Also, they don’t get pitted like plastic containers when you put them in the microwave. We haven’t had problems with the lids staying on, but our items are mostly just kept upright in a refrigerator. On the downside, they are heavy and might not work well for your backpack.

I just use the really cheap disposable ones- a rubber band and plastic bag makes sure there are no accidents, and I don’t have to worry if they get stained or mangled. It’s also nice that it isn’t a huge tragedy if I, say, get invited someplace after work and just toss the containers out instead of lugging a dirty container with me.
