TURBOJUGEND call out...

It’s high time for a TURBONEGRO appreciation thread, given that they were without a doubt the most important band of all time and the fact that they’re doing a one-off reunion this summer.

When I first got my paws on Ass Cobra and was thoroughly blown away by the sonic and lyrical terror, I played it for a couple of my friends who were big AC and GG Allin fans. They. Didn’t. Get. It.

A few weeks ago, I made a minidisc for a guy I work with who’s into Bizkit, Korn, ICP, and all that other rape-rock horseshit. It had excerpts from Ass Cobra and Apocalypse Dudes (Midnight NAMBLA, I Got Erection, Hobbit Motherfuckers, Just Flesh, Sailor Man, Age of Pamparius, Rock Against Ass, Rendezvous With Anus, Prince of the Rodeo, Good Head.) He asked me if they were “faggots.”

Then I came to the realization… TRBNGR are the thinking person’s shock rock. Name one other band that is so simultaneously ironically offensive yet headbangingly catchy.

Tubojugend, stand up and be counted.

Vaya con Satan.

Well, black455, even though it looks like there’s only the two of us, and HELL, it took me about five months to make the second post, all I can say is “WOOOOOOOOOO!!!”.

Honestly, I managed to pick up cheap copies of the live album DARKNESS FOREVER and the debut Hot Cars and Spent Contraceptives, and what can I say - they’re every bit as good as all those mumbling people recommending them to me for years were saying they are. I don’t know about the “Thinking person’s shock rock tag” - they tend to annihiliate thought, like most amazing high energy rock bands. Like what New Race might have been if they were from Norway and were perverts.

Whatever, they’re too good to be true. Along with those volumes of Killed by Death I just stumbled across, they’re making my life feel a little less empty and a little more like I did the first time I saw Eraserhead or Gilligans Island. Like there’s some meaning to it all, after all.
