Turning 21 in the MMP

[sarcasm font]Yeah, who could have seen that coming???[/sarcasm font] I fear as the Biden administration get in place and starts sorting things out, we’re going to find many more unpleasant things that His Exalted Cheeto-ness has left behind. Not to mention his minions who are no doubt planning hateful things to express their displeasure. Methinks the FBI and law enforcement will be extra busy in the coming months.

His head would probably explode to see where/how I live. The nearest gas station/convenience store and dollar store is 3 miles away. The nearest grocery store and assorted fast food places is 6-7 miles away. The closest major shopping area (big box stores, more restaurants, barber shops, etc) is 15 miles away. If the day comes that FCD and I can’t/shouldn’t drive, we may well have to move. Or maybe by that time, Roxy will be driving and we can hire her as our chauffeur!!

FCD should be on his way if his plans coalesced. I’m reluctant to call, tho, if he’s sleeping and I’m certainly not going to text if he’s driving. So we shall wait a bit longer. Apart from putting together a baked potato soup for his arrival, I don’t know what my day holds. It already started with blood! :open_mouth: Last week, I burned a finger on the basement fireplace. It was healing well, but this morning, I apparently disturbed the scab and I looked down to see 2 bloody fingers! It’s all bandaged up now. Always something.

So we shall venture forth into the unknown to see what the day has in store. Stay safe and masked, all!

Happy Sunday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 29 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (mostly moony?) with a predicted high of 53 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The plan of the day is to deheathenate virtually followed by a N.O.L. of steak, twice baked N.O.T. (actually made ‘em last night), bacon wrapped spareguts, sallit, and rolls. We shall do a little bit of cave spiffin’ (dust and vacuum) in prep for the potential cleanin’ person to come take a look tomorrow. I know, I know, but she is not comin’ to clean tomorrow, just to look and give us an estimate. Chillage shall also ensue. Any other need to feed will be via forage.

We have an appointment to get vaccinated on January 22nd. We shall be there at nine-fifteen and told we’ll have to hang around for fifteen minutes afterwards to monitor for any side effects. OK. In a Covid related matter, I have to get tested this Tuesday in prep for the colonoscopy on January 20th. Vestry meets tomorrow night, and as we have an option to meet via Zoom or in person, I shall take the Zoom option. I think it wise to pretty much “quarantine” myself until then.

BooFae Philly cheesesteak meatloaf intrigues me. Pray tell how one would go about creatin’ such a nummy soundin’ victual, please.

Nellie I have a cave because even a denizen of a swamp must have acceptable livin’ quarters. I really do live near a swamp. It’s a very beautiful area that a lot of folks have never heard about.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

I’m guessing you aren’t talking about football, which is what that would mean over here.

In my defense, I don’t even know if our Vikings are in the playoffs.

In a bit, off to wrangle my granddaughter for the day. It is the most fun there is, ask mooooomm.

That was a nice read! I’d love to watch a documentary about it - all the better if Sir David Attenborough narrates, of course.

I actually have fresh milk for a change, so I may have a quick bowl of cereal. Then off to stand in the freezing cold selling weed & contemplating my life choices.

Kidding! Kidding. It just amuses me how “thug” I can make myself seem in print, when in reality I’m a bespectacled widow who speaks like an English professor.

Kitties are splitting a can of gooshy-food and the ratties got a relatively big meal last night, so they’re all set. Off to care for myself now.

Me too. Ain’t life grand?

And I want to hear more about that swampie too. Ante up.

I have never been, but I know that those of us who live on a small island off the coast of Europe find it hard to relate to just how big the US of A is.

Some years ago my big sister and her husband flew to LA to stay with friends in (I think) Anaheim. The friends owned an RV and sis was borrowing it for three weeks.

They had a tour planned and when the friends stopped laughing, they crossed about half of it off as impossible. They did manage Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon though and enjoyed a very memorable holiday.

Happy birthday, Boo!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off work, so it’s cleaning day. I had an attack of feline paralysis, just as the 2nd pot of joe was ready. I’m lucky, I have a CVS a quarter mile from me, and multiple shopping options withing 2 miles. Cause the bus system is not ideal(except for going straight downtown for a bit of midday pub crawling. Then it rocks.)

LOL, no.

But HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Mooooooom, some of those subdivision street names gave me a chuckle. I used to live close to one that had streets named for fairy tale / legend characters. Think Robin Hood Lane, Cinderella Drive, etc.

doggio, my late sweetie’s dog had a tendency to get his freak on with a couch cushion whenever we had company. Dogs be weird.

sunny, is that Pixel, the chihuahua that’s getting freaky? That is fairly common with small male dogs who live with big dogs.

metal mouse, the store was in a strip shopping center on Music Valley Drive that has a few entertainment venues (temporarily closed or with limited hours) and some funky shops, including one that made me think of flyboy, the Catio Cat Cafe. The store was well put together and prices were good, but mostly consumables for my hobby. I’m trying to use up my consumables and stick to tools right now. I will, however, likley take some donations to them.

bob, even some folks who live in the US and don’t travel much have a warped sense of distance. When a friend and her husband were visiting from Indiana a few years back, I asked what their plans were while I was working one day and she told me that they wanted to go to Graceland. I asked her if they would be spending the night there and she told me that they planned to be back to my place by supper. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: She was astonished when I told her that Memphis was four hours away. TBH, she had never been much further than a couple of hours from home.

Date guy came up yesterday and went to Nashville with me. We got takeout from one of my favorite Mexican restaurant (OLE) because I had a gnawin’ and a cravin’ and it was my birthday dinner. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nelson got excited this morning when he got to meet our new neighbor dogs whilst out on his morning constitutional. They are a couple of shih tzus about his age named Ollie and Izzy. They were cutie pies and much tail wagging was involved.

Today’s plans are virtual heathenization in a few minutes and the usual Sunday chores. Tomorrow, I have a really early doctor’s appointment and a scheduled oil change in the afternoon. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Please tell me that it’s not a plate where people can eat cats that they pick out from a catio, like lobsters in a tank.

Happy birthday, BBBoo - y’know, if you’d PM’d me your address, you’d have got a birthday card too

Morning all. Stayed up until nearly midnight so slept past 8:30am today. Need to get ready to go forth and forage here in a short while. No rain today (tomorrow might have a trace of snow, however (The horror! The horror!)).

Agree with all of you that some people have no judgement of distance (I like to think I do having been a world traveler and all, but even I am surprised sometime). My nearest gas-n-shop is about 1.2 miles and the big stores are 3-4 miles away.

Glad Nelson made some new friends, red

bob the second, yeah, the western part of the United States can be overwhelming in terms of mileage.

swampy, who organized the vaccination? Did the state tell you when and where, or did you doctor plan it with you? Haven’t even inquired yet here in Ali-bama.

nellie, if it keeps up (the loud neighbors), maybe say hi to them and ask (nicely) if they could mind the noise since the floors transmit it, and if they don’t, then document the violations and report them. If you lease has rules, they need to meet them.

flyboy, congrats on getting out into society.

OK, best shave and wash and go get some sustenance prior to the tackleball games today. All y’all take care.

The other side of the distance thing is that many American visitors totally underestimate how long it can take to get around on our island.

It’s not helped by cruise companies describing Southampton as a London port when it’s actually 80 miles away. It doesn’t help that there is currently no direct train from Heathrow and take some convincing to take the perfectly adequate coach.

We always plan our US trips very carefully so that we can maximise the number of places we visit, but keep the driving down to a reasonable amount (again, because it’s just me who drives). Normally we leave our accommodation around mid-morning, grab some food and top up the tank, then we go on our way with the intention of reaching our accommodation for the night by around 5pm, allowing for however many stops we’ve planned along the way. So far it’s worked out very well, but sometimes it’s mentally exhausting just to be staying in a different place every night. I’ve now beaten him down to a couple of stops where I get a day off driving, or at least I’m only driving round the nice quiet route of a national park rather than navigating to wherever’s next.

Swampy tonight’s meatloaf probably bears no resemblance to what you consider to be meatloaf, it’s out of a book of quick and easy slimming recipes! I’m making it according to the recipe to see how it turns out, then next time I’ll make some adjustments:

100g potato - peel left on, washed and finely grated
Oil, or cooking spray
1 onion, peeled and sliced
2 peppers (any colour), sliced
200g sliced button mushrooms
2 tbsp white wine vinegar
Salt and pepper to season
500g beef mince
2 peeled and crushed garlic cloves
1 tbsp mixed herbs
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 tbsp sriracha sauce
2 tbsp Worcester Sauce
1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
1 egg, beaten
150g spreadable cheese
150g unsmoked bacon medallions

  1. Wrap the grated potato in a tea towel and squeeze out the excess moisture
  2. Sauté the onions, peppers and mushrooms for 25 minutes until golden brown and softened
  3. Add the white wine vinegar, salt and peper. Leave to cool. Preheat the oven to 200C (180 Fan, Gas 6)
  4. Combine the mince, garlic, herbs, cumin, sriracha, Worcester Sauce, grated potato, mustard and egg in a bowl, season and mix thoroughly
  5. Line a large baking tray with cling film and evenly spread the mince mix to cover it. Spread the cheese over the mince, then spread the peppers/onion/mushroom mix over the cheese, leaving a 1cm gap around the edges. Roll up into a sausage and shape to encase the filling
  6. Remove the cling film and place the meatloaf on a greased baking tray. Place the bacon medallions over the top. Cook for 30mins then cover with foil and cook for a further 25mins until the meatloaf is firm to the touch and no longer pink inside

Says it should be served with sallit, therefore I will serve it with sallit.

Call it 18 oz of hamburger, 5.3 oz each of cheese and Canadian bacon, and a 400o oven. I find it difficult to imagine the meat mixture just sitting there and letting one spread cheese on it, so I would be tempted to melt the cheese and pour it over the meat. Or for those who are willing to eat such things, there’s Cheez Whiz…

Or even easier, just use sliced cheese. (Yes, I know, that takes away from its cheese-steak qualities.)

According to the MD Vaccine plan, I’m in group 1C. No clue how long each phase will take, but I can keep on keepin’ on till they tell me otherwise. My daughter’s in 1B, being an educator an all.

FCD stopped in the middle of NC to go to the Carhartt outlet, because he has no self-control. He really likes their t-shirts - he’s got a couple dozen but apparently he needs more. I swear, that man has twice as many garments as I do!

bob - I agree with you about Southampton being “London” according to cruise lines. I was surprised how long a ride it was from the airport to the cruise terminal. I was also surprised when excursions from LeHavre included Paris - surely most of the time was spent speeding down the highway. But since my mom and I had both been to Paris in the past, we opted for Honfleur that day.

I suppose I should mosey downstairs and tread the mill for a while. After I find something worth watching on TV to get me thru the hour. I’m having a serious attack of attitude.

Apparently, “spreadable” cheese in this case is something like Primula or Dairylea Triangles rather than other sorts of cheese. Personally if it’s going to bake in the oven later, I’d use normal grated cheddar instead. I’ve got cream cheese so that will have to do, I doubt it would spread particularly well either but I’ll give it a go.

I’m happy to try the recipe as it is in the book, but after that, I’m making whatever changes I think would work

I would just use something ‘grateable’ and have done, but I’m weird. I would prolly stop after the garlic anyway.

Oh, and goood morning everyone.

I used to love driving, and mostly drove little British sports cars, but don’t enjoy it anymore and wish ‘public transportation’ in this country wasn’t so inadequate.

Nothing else to report so far. Maybe more later. Maybe.

Yup. I find it hilarious. The bigguns will occasionally turn around and nip at the offending appendage. Pixel looks so insulted and outraged.

Cold and grey today. It may or may not rain, because our forecast is bad. So bad.

No plans. Rah!

Howdy. Still kicking. My bum knee got better after I got the approval for an MRI and would have cost me over $600 out of pocket. New Year. Gotta pay deductible. But, it really is better so now I agree with the doc that it’s referred pain from my creaky old knees.

I got my stimulus check. I don’t know why it was mailed but it was probably cause hubby’s name is also on the account. I still have one bank account I cannot get into. I know there is some money there. I filed with the probate office to get a letter of administration so I can have that money. Who knows how long that will take. Hubby took a modest paycheck from his business so after speaking with the accountant the lady that does payroll gave me a raise.

I don’t qualify for survivors benefits from social security because I make too much money. I would get $1300 a month if I didn’t make more than 18K. Bastards. I can always use that should I become unemployed.

I have to take another training starting on Tuesday for 10 days on budgeting. I am a pro at budgeting for my business in a normal year. We are not normal. I do believe I shall get a plague shot very soon. They are doing the first responders first but I signed up for it. I’m tired of being afraid to go to the store.

I have not read much and have been a bad Mumper. I shall try harder.
