Revenge of the Fifth- A Post Holiday MMP

If you drink a fifth on the Fourth, you might not go forth on the Fifth- old Klingon proverb

it’s a holiday Monday, and since I’m not in retail, it’s a holiday for me instead of extra irk. Any other of the non retired, non retail, Amurikun Mumpers have off today? I saw nettie has to work later today. :frowning:

Now we have two of them going. You win.

I asked for them to be combined, so there will be confusion. Which is the normal MMP state of affairs.

Thank you, dear doggio.

I was trying to figure out how to do that.

Sheesh, that’s how I know I’m in the right place.

clikc on the three dots at the bottom, click on the flag, click on “other”. then let the Mods know they need to combine MMPs. Again.

I’m nothing if not docile and obedient……plus, it’s still too loud here to try to sleep.

Lovely day playing with the grandchildren. Simple pleasures: wading pool, pool noodle squirter, Frozen songs on the karaoke machine, grilled cheeseburgers, mango popsicles. No alcohol was harmed bringing you this program… Hungry grandbaby trying to nurse on my collarbone, how sweet it is.

Oops, GMTA.

GMTA?

I’m guessing Great Minds Think Alike, and I consider both of you to be part of the Great Minds of Mumpdom, so I think it fits.

Off to re-read the MRI Anxiety thread. Appointment’s today in 10 hours.

Good luck. the one I had wasn’t bad.

Well. Fourth of July. It’s 23:44 as I start typing this.

Mrs. L.A. wanted to drive to the beach – 450 feet away. We got into the MG, and there was no parking. I decided to drive down the beach just to look at the scene. Oh, it’s still daylight at this point. There’s a liquor store a mile down the beach, and I saw the proprietor sitting in front of it with her b/f. I asked if we could hang out, and she said we could. I pulled the MG out and backed it in. We sat and watched fireworks as night approached. I picked up a four-pack of Tortoise Shell Hazy IPA from next door (the liquor store being closed and they don’t sell beer) and we watched the visitors shooting off thousands of dollars worth of mortars over the bay.

Going home was a pain. Traffic was stop-and-stop-and-go. I always worry when driving the MG in those conditions. Fortunately, it didn’t stall. Turns out the sheriff had the road blocked at the intersection. Once beyond that, it was clear sailing. I wasn’t wearing a watch, and I forgot my phone; but it must have taken 20 minutes too go half a mile.

Home now.

Midnight, and most of the explosions have stopped. I think Goo is thankful.

Sticky/healthy thoughts needed, folks.

One of my SiLs is pregnant again, age 47, still not clear if the pregnancy looks viable or will be aborted due to non-viability. It’s implanted in the uterus (good), they could find the heartbeat (good) but couldn’t see the amniotic sac (not good). We should know day after tomorrow.

They told us on Saturday and I’ve slept something like 6h total between these two nights. This is Control-SiL the GP; about a year ago she finally realized that “if everything seems wrong with the world and with everybody, it’s probably you that’s wrong” and has improved a lot, but if the pregnancy looks viable she’ll have to go off her meds, which is Not Good.

Just on Friday we were talking with some friends about how one of the issues of current medical science is that the “female” case has been treated as “a variant of the ‘male’ case which complicates testing and doesn’t need to be considered separately”. One of the consequences of this is that being pregnant gets you punished without any meds other than insulin and pregnancy-specific ones. Whether I end up getting a Littlestest Niecephew or not, I am worried about SiL…

{{{Nava}}}!!! It’s been eons! Welcome back! But, dang, scary news about SIL… And I can’t imagine being pregnant at 47 - yoiks!!

BBBoo - sounds like you had an especially sweet 4th, well, except for the noise that wrapped it up. Once the show at the stadium was over, there were hardly any booms to be heard. RoxStar dozed off in the car, but I saw her open her eyes when I jumped out. I assume by the time she got home, she was unconscious!

One thing I didn’t mention in my last post last night - they had a paddle boat pool - the boats were plastic with two hand-powered paddlewheels, and they had a weight restriction of 200#, so there was no way preggo Mama, or even I could go along (once you add almost 40# of toddler…) So Roxy went alone, and she did remarkably well, altho my daughter sorta walked along the side of the pool and occasionally pushed Roxy along with one foot.

She was ultimately able to give her one last shove towards the starting point, and the kid managing the ride was busy with another patron, so I went in and grabbed the boat as it landed. Daughter helped Roxy out, and I held on till the kid came back and someone else boarded. It took a promise of ice cream to get our girl out, tho - she was having too much fun! And, frankly, I was impressed with how easily she figured out how the boat worked. Further proof that my granddaughter is a freekin’ genius!

I felt bad for FCD - not only was he hurting, but he fell twice while I was gone. He needs to start using his cane around the house, too - there’s not always a convenient piece of furniture around to help him. Today, we go to the hospital for a pre-replacement class - hoping to get the big picture and get some specific questions answered.

It took me a while to wind down last night, but a couple of mindless games on my tablet did the trick - pretty sure I crashed well before midnight, and it was after 5 when I woke, so mostly a win. Not sure what today holds - I would like to move the TV that was in the basement into our bedroom, then I need to figure out where to mount the old bedroom TV and Roku in the guest room. Probably in the corner of the room, since there’s an outlet nearby. And there’s always tidying to be done.

Happy Moanday, all!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrlkn out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and maybe rain this afternoon and evenin’. Or not. It’s another willy-nilly day for TWPTB. The house cleaner will be here in a couple of hours. That is the major item on today’s agenda. Even sup is a no brainer. There are two smoked chikin boobs left and they shall be sliced up and added to a sallit. There will also be cheesey garlic bread.

{{{Nava}}} it’s been at least a year of Sundays since you posted. Do come back and visit more. Scary stuff with SIL. Hope everything turns out for the best. You still in Spain or have you taken up residence somewhere else in Yurp again?

Sounds like some fun Independence Day stuff for a lot of us. The fireworks boomed until around midnight here and then abruptly ceased.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I shall also make myself presentable for the cleanin’ lady.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

I started a new job last week. It’s the first time I’ve had a proper job in longer than I’d care to share, but think years not months. And it’s been good so far, it has a practical element (not much fun) and a creative element (hopefully fun with room for expansion) and some pretty cool colleagues to work alongside.

The most painful part is the transition from lackadaisical homebody life to regular physical activity.

Congrats, BatBoy!!! It’s especially great to have good coworkers!

swampy - are you anticipating any weather from Elsa??

Oh, boy, Nava and BatBoy both posting this Moanday. Good to see you both. Congrats on the job, Bats, and hope it all works out for the best for SiL, Nava.

FCM and flyboy, glad you had enjoyable nights. I was pretty much a homebody and about 8:30pm all the North Ali-bamians who had been hoarding fireworks decided to set them off, so I had about two hours of constant noise. Fortunately it pretty much stopped just before I went to bed.

Need to make a shop-n-sammich run later this morning and I have been thinking about making a list of small things that I need to do, because once I have a list, I naturally want to cross things off it. Maybe later…

No rain here, swampy, but Wednesday and Thursday may be wet, we’ll have to see. Heading for 91F today according to the Weather Wizards.

OK, everybody have a good Moanday now.

Good morning and happy Monday, all.

We’ve completed the deep-cleaning and junk-disposing tasks in our kitchen, in preparation for painting next week. I can’t wait to get the old ugly builder’s grade “oak” cabinets freshened up with off-white paint, and the white walls softened with a pleasing warm gray that I picked out.

My to-do list for today:

  1. Apply for Medicare
  2. Pack up my home office computer, scanner, monitor, etc. in preparation for carting it all back into the real office tomorrow.
  3. Grill a buttload of chicken drummettes for lunch, and prepare potato salad as accompaniment.

I’m both looking forward to and dreading returning to the home office. I’m so used to working in flip-flops and capris, and to not styling my hair nor applying makeup. I am looking forward to socializing with humans other than my husband, but I do get tired of having them in my face for eight hours a day with no escape. And then there’s that 45 minute commute and getting dinner on the table at the end of the tiring day.

Retirement is looking better all the time.
