My circle uses the phrase so it’s popular to us.

I don’t know who first did it this way; it may even date back to vaudeville. I remember Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin) doing it on “One Day at a Time” and the ad infinitum on “Friends” and any other number of shows.

It’s the way of saying “Oh my God” as if each word were a separate sentence.

Oh.

I liked Sgt. Jablonski well enough (and the actor who played him, Robert Prosky). But they tried to give him a catch phrase of his own: “Let’s do it to them before they do it to us.” It just didn’t have the same ring to it. Phil’s admonition started off quietly enough at the beginning of each new season. “Let’s roll. And let’s be careful out there.” And with the passage of time, as the tension and frustrations of the season’s events grew, it would become louder and louder until he was yelling it the top of his lungs. “Hey, HEY HEY! LET’S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!”
