I thought for my 200th post I would do one with a topic besides beer.
Have any past or present catch phrases associated with one person or show?
For Conan, it’s “We have a great show for you tonight. Not like all the others.”
Also, the old ones never seem to die.
One of my kids’ current favorites is from the old “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” show, where Maynard G. Crebbs (“Gilligan”) reacts to the word “work” with horror: “WORK!!”
Well, most people associate David Duchovny with the X-Files. I associate him with “Dear Red Shoes…”
There are MANY catchphrases I assoicate with Get Smart, the Original Star Trek, Married with Children, etc. I could probably post one a day for several months.
“Not that there’s anything wrong with that”, from the Seinfeld episode where everyone thinks Jerry’s gay, seems to have passed into common currency, since I’m familiar with it and have never watched the show (not that there’s anything wrong with that . . . ).
One that was fairly widespread in my circle in college, and that I still use regularly myself, is “There is that”, but I’m afraid I’m unable to assign any specific cultural (pop or otherwise) source to it. Any notions?
I’ve mentioned elsewhere my tendency to throw out “But the cat came back” in conversation.
And of course, in the spirit of the OP, “They pelted us with rocks and garbage”.
Some of the classic catch phrases from Laugh-in were:
“Sock it to me,” “You bet your bippy,”
“Look that up in your Funk and Wagnails,”
“Here come de judge!,” and
“Beautiful Downtown Burbank.”
Hmmmm…(take your pick) and D’Oh.
Grrrr…
Ay carembra and Don’t have a cow, man.
HA!–HA!
Okaly, dokaly.
Excellent.
You may remember me from such ___________as
Hello, everybody; hello, Doctor Nick. ChuckleChuckle.
Congratulations on 200, Anna! Although IIRC, didn’t you start over with a new user name? So it is probably actually congrats on awholebunchMORE than 200!
Yes! I’d totally forgotten. lamerino had 25 posts, a nice round number.
Thanks for coming everyone and do have some more of the special punch. It’s my favorite recipe.
As for catch phrases,
Johnny Carson had a lot, but I can only come up with these:
**“Take the Slawson Cutoff, get out of your car, cut off your slawson, get back in the car”
“And then you come to the fork in the road”
As Aunt Blabby swats Ed McMahon “Never say undertaking to an old person!”
