Was there some legislation that took effect on June 1 to make them bigger and more frequent? They seem almost double the size they used to be, and are being shown more often.
The TV ratings are a voluntary system adopted by the TV industry after Congress bullied them into it a few years ago. They’re not controlled by legislation. IIRC, the icons are supposed to appear for 10 seconds at the beginning of the show and whenever the show returns from a commercial. As for the size, I don’t know.
Why do they need to display the TV rating at all? Today’s cable & satellite boxes always contain the rating within the show description, which is but a single button-click away.
