Bosom Buddies–A show that has Donna Dixon, Thelma Hopkins, Peter Scolari, Holland Taylor, Wendy Jo Sperber and Tom Hanks only lasts two years.
Nah the show outlived it’s premise. How many years were they going to be in drag? They couldn’t find another apartment in two years? IIRC they tried to get away from the original premise at the end, then it all fell apart.
I had no idea there were other people who really liked John Doe. I’m still annoyed about that one. (Anyone know the title of the theme song? I loved the use of the cello and would like to have a copy.) And Cupid! Man, I liked that show; Jeremy Piven is awesome.
I’m hoping that at some point, the networks will be releasing these shows as downloads in an iTunes manner. Especially the ones that appeal to a small percentage of viewers. Could be a hell of a money maker. I mean, I once spent a whole day searching for episodes of Cupid online; the only one I came across was one starring Lisa Loeb (available from her website, IIRC), as my wife did for Voyagers. I’d gladly pay a fair amount for them.
The real villain is the guy who moved it to 10 PM Friday night for the third season, causing Roddenberry to cease involvement. That’s the guy ultimately responsible for Spock’s Brain and Turnabout Intruder.
My vote is No Soap Radio which was on around the time Police Squad was and was even weirder. Only lasted four episodes, and was hilarious.
I still miss Alien Nation. Where’s my freaking DVD set, complete with the mediocre tv movies?
T’was John Ciardi got me into this mess, thinking I could keep things straight reading Dante once. :smack:
Having recently rewatched all of Space: Above and Beyond on the new DVDs, I think I know what happened in that case. Good idea, bad execution. The pilot sucked hardcore–I was thinking about halfway through, “Why did I like this show nine years ago?” After the pilot it definitely got better, but let’s be honest, the pilot can make or break a show.
One of their major problems as far as believability was timeframe. They didn’t set it forward far enough for some of the plot elements they were using. Widescale human genetic engineering, interstellar travel, and AI revolt, all within the next sixty years?
Amen to both of the above.
