TV Show DVD suggestions, please

My job requires incredibly dull overnight shifts. I’ve taken to watching movies and TV shows to pass the time, but I’ve burned through most of my own.

What I need now is suggestions of TV shows that I can get from the library and watch from beginning to end.

For example, I’ve started MAS*H, and next on my list is The Wire. Both are shows that I may have seen an episode or two of, but would like to see all of.

So, go ahead, name all TV shows ever created that you think I should watch.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Firefly
Battlestar Galactica

British
The Avengers (Emma Peel season only)
Manchild
Blackadder
Ballykissangel

Arrested Development
Fawlty Towers
Ripping Yarns
Yes Minister + Yes Prime Minister

(All of the above being comedy)

TV Tropes list of “Better on DVD”.

dear god, what have you done to me?

Welcome to the world of [del]AIDS[/del] TV Tropes.

Futurama
The Simpsons
Family Guy
Tales From the Crypt
How I Met Your Mother

NCIS
Buffy (natch!)
House
Alias

That should keep you busy for a while.

Let me try to add stuff that hasn’t already been mentioned.

Gotta add *Mad Men ** to the list. Also the British version of The Office, the first 3 or four seasons of the American version, Wonderfalls, Freaks and Geeks, and Undeclared. Season 1 of Veronica Mars was brilliant and great on DVD.

If you dig animation, Batman the Animated Series, Home Movies, The Critic and seasons 1-6 of the Simpsons are great on DVD. I know the Simpsons was already mentioned, but I am giving you specific seasons so I figure that’s fair.

*Just pretend that season 2 never happened. It was Wallace at the door at the end of season 1. That’s the way it should have gone and so that’s what you should believe. Ignore reality because that show only had one good season in it. Seasons 2 and 3 actually make season 1 less good.

Watch The Wire twice. Then, watch Twin Peaks twice.

Flight of The Conchords

Rome
A Bit of Fry and Laurie
Sherlock Holmes (Brett as lead)
Homicide: Life on the Street
Babylon 5
Wolf’s Rain
Farscape
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

Breaking Bad. You’ll thank me.

And, you’re welcome.

Supernatural. I watch it while exercising on my bike in the basement.

A note on The Wire.

In my opinion, it is the best TV show ever made. But it only really rewards close viewing. If your job allows you to watch plenty of TV, but also distracts you from what you’re watching on a regular basis, The Wire might not be the best choice. You really need to watch each episode closely, and make an effort to follow what’s going on, because the story arcs are long, covering a full season.

Edit:

Also want to second the recommendation of Breaking Bad. Bryan Cranston is amazing, and the show is great.

Unfortunately, that’s the only way I can watch anything. Even the dude-where’s-my-cars of cinema, I just can’t stand to miss even a little of. It’s a curse, honestly.

Slings and Arrows - one of my all time favourites. They’re all worth watching, but the first season was especially good.

In addition to some already mentioned…
The West Wing
Boston Legal
Upright Citizens Brigade
Jeeves & Wooster
The Young Ones
Malcolm In The Middle
Greg The Bunny
