TV show with a dragon that eats oranges

I remember a television show I watched in the late 60’s or early 70’s. There was a boy and he had a pet dragon, he would toss oranges to the dragon who caught and ate them. I think the dragon was a puppet or a person in a suit.
I don’t think it was a version of Pete’s Dragon. Google hasn’t been helpful.
Anybody remember anything similar?

Could it be from the book series “Three Tales of My Father’s Dragon”? specifically Elmer and the Dragon

There’s a scene in the book where Elmer is on an island eating tangerines and throwing the peels to the dragon to eat. Is it possible a TV special was made of this book? I can’t find anything…

The only other thing I can think of is Pete’s Dragon scene in the apple orchard where Pete throws apples to the dragon

I don’t think it was either of those but the orange peel is very close & Pete’s dragon clearly enjoyed those apples.
The scene took place indoors, maybe in the boy’s bedroom. I think he was hiding the dragon. It was a movie that was shown occasionally on Sunday mornings. Compared to Saturday cartoons Sunday morning television was dismal to a ten year old.

This brings a faint recollection - one of those very weird “oh, yeah” vibes - but no details.

Hold the phone, chuckles. Stop. The. Presses.

I have to process something right now.

There’s more than one of those books? It’s a SERIES?
Heading off to look.

(Not Pete’s Dragon, you goobs, My Father’s Dragon.)

H.R. Pufnstuf?

Oranges Poranges, who cares?

There’s way more dragon fruit references out there than I’d ever imagine.

HR Pufinstuf’s white cowboy / go-go boots have always freaked me out.

Yea, my thought exactly.

It’s good we can be so helpful.

Maybe this is the other alternate ending to… *BANG

*“…and that’s when I shot him, Your Honor.”

Same here…was it maybe the Munsters? Did they ever feed Spot?

This seem like a place to mention that there is a remake of Pete’s Dragon coming sometime too soon.

I always thought Spot was a fire breathing Stegosaurus, Google suggests a dragon. My dragon looked more like an upright alligator / baby Godzilla hybrid.

Gigglesnort Hotel?

Albi the Racist Dragon?

Sorry, I got nuttin’.

Are you sure this wasn’t a series of animated commercials? During the 70s, Sunkist had an ad campaign featuring a dinosaur (who looked sort of like a dragon) who was always trying to scam Sunkist oranges from some kids. Originally, the dragon sounded like W.C. Fields but the Fields estate threatened suit and they had to redub his voice.

Here’s one of the ads.

H.R. Puffinstuf: proof that some people in the 1960’s did a LOT of drugs…

Yes, they did, but I’m not sure what, exactly, they were feeding him. And since it was only shot in black and white it most certainly would not have been “orange” even if it was small and round.
