TV Shows lost in the mists of time

How about “Alien Nation,” the series based on the movie, with aliens who came to modern-day Earth? I used to like that show a lot.

“Count your spots, George.”

Oh, oh! FOX’s first season of sitcoms. Especially Duets, Herman’s Head and the show about a real estate office with starring Something LaPlaca. I loved her and it is a shame I do not remember her name. I do remember Ellen Degeneres before anybody knew she was gay on the same show.

I remember a show called “Rhythm & Blues” from the early 90s ( I was a kid, it was probably horrible!) with a white guy who was hired on as the only white talent at a black radio station. The lead character was some kind of Robin Williams knockoff. I’m pretty sure I even remember him pretending to be Mork for an extended period of time. The only other bit I remember was him on the air pretending to do an interview with Redd Foxx (who had recently died), with him doing both parts. Again, like Robin Williams.

“Something LaPlaca”

Alison LaPlaca, she was in **The Jackie Thomas Show **I mentioned earlier in the thread.

It starred Roger Kabler as “Bobby Soul”, and it only lasted for about five weeks.

Roger Kabler? Boy, he quickly became one of the hottest names in show business, didn’t he?

Thank you for digging that up. I see the name of the show was Open House.

Alison LaPlaca has such a reputation for killing off TV series that there is an online contest called the Alison LaPlaca Open in which you try to correctly guess which new TV series will be cancelled fastest.

How about parts of shows that are no longer shown?
I long to see the 1940s-1950 Looney Tunes cartoons that are not PC and therefore are no longer shown on TV.
Many of those were classics.

I remember MTV had a few funny sitcom type shows, including early versions of the Ben Stiller Show and (I think) the Chris Elliot Show. Also some show featuring that guy in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure who wasn’t Keanu Reeves.

No thanks, we’re trying to cut down.

You might remember him also in N.Y.P.D where he played the typical Jewish-looking cop. More realistic than usual for the time, and produced by David Susskind another person hardly anyone remembers these days.

Me! I was a huge Prince Planet fan. My friends and I used to cut out the star medallion out of cardboard and get down on one knee and say “Priiiince Planet!”. (We were about 7 years old). I even remember a bit of the song, without googling:

“No one can compare to the prince who wears
the medallion on his chest…
(something something) right from wrong
Prince Planet he’s the best!!”

Wow, thanks for those memories!

I remember watching a show called He & She when I was a little kid. I don’t know why it sticks in my memory. Maybe there was something controversial about it that caused a reaction from my parents. What I can remember clearly is one character entering a window in the NYC apartment set on a board over an alley from another apartment.

Looking it up, it ran for one season in the late 60’s and starred Paula Prentiss, Richard Benjamin and Jack Cassidy. The character entering through the window on a plank was coming from an adjacent firehouse. I wonder what floor the apartment was supposed to be on.

Koxinga–Thanks for the memories. We didn’t have cable but my grandmother did so when we went over there, we’d stay up late watching Headbanger’s Ball and Totally Pauly (which is the reason I’m a Pauly Shore fan to this day:cool:).

Duuuude. Bud-dy.

Another lost show is “Frank’s Place” about a black guy who moved from up North to New Orleans to take over a bar/restaurant that he inherited. He was played by the actor who played Venus Flytrap on “WKRP in Cincinnati.” The characters were mostly black and the plots and relationships were exquisite, sensitive, and hilarious. He started out as a fish out of water but came to appreciate the rich and quirky culture. Another one of those shows that was too good to last.

Here’s a very obscure one: The Bearcats, which apparently ran for one season in 1971. It was a Western, with a cool car. I remember liking it but remember nothing of the plot. Since I would have been 7 or 8, I assume there was a Cute Guy in it.

Yeah, I remember that one. The car was a Stutz Bearcat that had machineguns mounted on it. I remember the car clearly because one of the model companies, Revell maybe, offered a kit of it that I built. The main characters were wandering adventurers or mercenaries IIRC.

I totally forgot how much I loved Tales of the Gold Monkey until I saw the series for sale at a video store. It sadly just disappeared. As a side note, I think this show could actually work if given the Battlestar Galactica treatment.

More recently there was a show called Love Monkey that I rather liked about a music label A&R guy. It just faded away. I never even saw the cancelation announcement online. I tuned in one week and it was. I more.

Hec Ramsey

Part of the NBC Mystery Movie line up for a very short time in the early 70s. I liked it more than I did McCloud.

Hec Ramsey was an old gunfighter/lawman coming to grips with the changing West of about 1900. He was very big into forensic science. I remember one closing scene where he saw an automobile and wondered about its usefulness. I haven’t been able to find it on NetFlix yet.
