TV shows you like, I which you dislike one character/actor

Has Micucci ever played a character who wasn’t whiny and sniveling? I honestly don’t get it. I don’t think she’s even good at being quirky. But what do I know- she gets steady work.

I thought that was just Janeway’s personality of a stiff strict somewhat emotionless military officer and NOT because of a lack of acting ability on the part of Kate Mulgrew.

On “Raising Hope” she played Hope’s ukulele-playing day care provider. I don’t remember her being whiny and sniveling, but definitely quirky.

You might be right - I guess she is very good in Orange is the New Black, which I haven’t watched.

Kate Mulgrew was also an (age inappropriate) Mrs Columbo in the Columbo spin off but I don’t recall ever watching any episodes.

TCMF-2L

YES!!! That’s who I came here to mention. And it was both the character and the actress. Everything about her made my skin crawl. Shows how desperate Raj was, to consider marrying her.

I can’t believe that The Big Bang Theory has been brought up, like, a dozen times in this thread, and I’m the first person to mention Sheldon Cooper.

I know I watched them all, and I can’t remember a single thing from any of them. Not even the credits or theme music.

I can’t believe Sheldon Cooper would be mentioned in this thread.

I can’t be the only person who doesn’t like Sheldon. I refuse to believe that.

Sheldon is annoying, but he’s also what makes the show. He’s like the ultimate Felix Unger to every other character’s “Oscar”. He’s intentionally annoying, so that he’s the character you have to work at to like. If you don’t “like” Sheldon, then you can’t like BBT.

I’ve run into one or two people online who seem to find Sheldon refreshingly relatable, and all the other characters annoying. “The roommate agreement lays everything out perfectly clearly. If Leonard would just abide by it, there wouldn’t be any problem. I would rather live with Sheldon than with Leonard any day!”

I paraphrase, but not by much. Sheldon may be an exaggeration, but there are people who see the world the same way he does.

Roseanne. It’s a shame Roseanne Barrnold had to appear in an otherwise perfect sitcom. She was the proverbial turd in a punchbowl.

Indeed, I was trying to finish Battlestar Galactica before it left whatever streaming service I was watching it on, and I happily skipped many of the Baltar scenes, especially the ones where he is seeing/imagining Number 6. Don’t feel like I missed a thing.

I see several Star Trek mentions so far. What about Captain Kirk? Who liked him?

And Everybody Loves Raymond: Every time I saw a glimpse of this show, I nearly puked. Raymond, Debra, and all their kinfolk, were nothing but obnoxious twats. I pitied the kids.

I think the kids are obnoxious twats. Ok, that’s harsh. Let’s just say I don’t watch the eps that center around the kids.

Well, that too. Still, one could see that they were disturbed kids growing up in that grotesque environment. Why this show was even considered a “sitcom” escaped me. In one episode, their disturbed behavior in school led to the school calling in Child Protective Services. I watched this show as rarely as I possibly could.

ETA: Big Bang Theory reminds me a lot of that show.

No more or less than any other character on the show,

Kirk tackled problems like James Bond: find some susceptible woman who can be manipulated and bed her.
Spock only pretended he didn’t have emotions. He loved taunting McCoy. His style of humor was using long words when short would suffice - “I believe I said that.”
McCoy was a sexist, racist throwback.
Scotty was a sexist, racist throwback, AND an alcoholic.
Chapel was not only a one-note character, she was only there because she was Roddenberry’s mistress.
Sulu - OK Sulu was great. Can’t think of anything bad to say.

And yet, I love the show.

And Uhura’s primary purpose was to occasionally say “Captain, I’m scared” which, of course, nobody else was allowed to say.

Quite true, sadly.

At least they gave Rand a bit more than just being a star struck love interest for Kirk. Before they dumped her.
