tvtmd.exe

So after all the business with msblaster, I got curious about some of the other items I see in my “processes” list.

One of them comes up under google as being somehow a bad thing taht should be got rid of–tvtmd.exe.

My questions are these:

What is it?

How urgent is it that I rid myself of it?

Is there a way to rid myself of it that doesn’t involve downloading one of these programs like “spyware” or “hijackthis”?

What is its relation to memorymonitor.exe? (Or something like that.) I remember once someone tried to get that installed onto my computer while I was on the net, but I stopped them in time. It keeps popping up in google on the same pages as tvtmd.exe.

tvtmd = TV T-Media Display and I got it by installing Grokster I think.

I removed it with Spyware Scanner but wasn’t easy at first.

Also I see on the 'net others who just reboot machine into safe mode and delete manually.

Jesus…sorry about that…stupid proxy here gone crazy…admin around to make me look less stupid?

So, I was wondering,

How urgent is it that I remove tvtmd.exe?

How do I do so without downloading spybot or hijackthis or anything like that?

Can I, just as I did with msblast.exe, just kill the process, delete the file from my window’s directory, and remove the registry key? Or might I screw something up that way?

Any time you fiddle around with the registry, make a backup copy by using the “export” function. That way, if the changes you made make your computer go nuts, you can restore the llast version.
