I posted a thread asking about late night tv. People spent half the thread arguing who was the definitive Tonight Show host. I called out the uselessness of their posts, and the Almighty Twickster mods me! WTF, Twickster, am I not allowed to steer threads back on track, and call out the hijackers? If not, good to know.
Case dismissed based on lack of evidence.
It wasn’t at all thread-shitting. Since there have been, in fact, many late night talk show hosts before Jay Leno, their history is completely relevant to your question.
Here’s the thread, for those keeping score at home.
There’s a difference between playful banter and threadshitting. It’s a fine line, apparently. In this case, it was playful banter that was on topic to boot.
The jokes were stupid and Twickster should have told people to knock it off with cracks about whose couch it is rather than getting on etv’s case.
So you’re saying you should be allowed to Jr Mod for some reason? Why do you feel you deserve that latitude?
FFS. If the entire thread had been like that, I’d see being annoyed. But it was like three very brief comments, surrounded by substantive answers to your questions. If you had just rolled with it, your thread would still be on track. Instead you got aggro and personal with people, and then they got aggro and personal with you, and your thread is in danger of being ruined. It’s like you set out the nice china in your house and then started pro-wrestling with the guy who clinked his teacup too hard on the saucer.
I’m with Twickster on this one. Lighten up etv78, people were having fun and were mostly on topic.
etv78, you never seem to learn from experience in this. You start threads and when they don’t go exactly as you want them to you start becoming obnoxious to other posters (and sometimes end up getting warned for it). If you find a few off-topic posts intended as jokes to be so intolerable, you shouldn’t be starting threads.
Generally speaking, it’s a good thing if the original poster clarifies the subject and offers constructive remarks regarding thread topicality. When etv criticizes a joke post with a Mr. rolleyes, that doesn’t qualify as constructive thread management. Also, the OP here should have had a link and OP there was somewhat opaque. Overall, the OP here seems misguided.
An OP certainly may attempt to “steer threads back on track” by expanding on and clarifying his or her OP, responding to relevant answers, asking follow-up questions, etc. Normally, people are pretty respectful of that. An OP doesn’t get to play junior mod just because he started a thread, however.
There was no threadshitting or hijacking, anyway. There were just a few side comments. And if you’re going to object to side comments, then you should refrain from making them yourself:
Looked like the right mod call to me.
A ban would have been better.
Y’know, considering your own history of warnings people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
Threadshitting is when someone comes into a thread and tells the participants they’re assholes for having the conversation they’re having.
There was zero threadshitting going on in that thread. There was, however, someone overreacting to other people making humorous, on-topic remarks.
My history of warnings is pretty laughable if you look into it for more than 2 seconds.

Especially the one from you, born out of some exaggerated and misguided distaste for the word “butthurt” in Panama or something.
And for transparancy: Here are all of my three warnings from the past 8 years:
Arguing w/ **Ambivalid ** back before he was fun. (Aw, the old days).
Telling someone that something they posted made them sound dumb. Oh no!
And for calling someone that nasty word “butthurt.”
You’re right… I’m an awful menace.
Read the thread. Twicster was right. OPs don’t have special rights to be rude and to try to control a thread. That’s been shown over and over.
So, what’s it called when someone posts the exact same thing twice?
