Twickster, I would appreciate an apology

It would appear that it’s possible that actions that wouldn’t be cause for a ban, would be cause for removal from modding. I’m not sure if you would classify that as “a higher standard,” but it kind of seems so.

Every time someone complains about a mod, the crowd rises up to their defense. They can do no wrong. Very seldom have I seen one actually, truly apologize. Mostly the one complaining gets smacked down by the crowd.

Welcome to the Dope.

You don’t have a problem with moderators calling a poster a twat (language that is specifically forbidden in the Pit, even)? Or with that moderator giving themselves less than a slap on their own wrist?

It’s like a child punishing themselves for drawing all over the wall in permanent marker by limiting themselves to just 3 cookies instead of the usual 4.

Actually, that’s not what I meant, but I don’t have any problem with that either. Mods are no more likely to publicly castigate themselves and admit their errors than anybody else around here. The natural human response to criticism is to deny, defend and dodge. To expect volunteers to be super-human is ridiculous. Add in the tendency for this group to pile on and demand immediate action be taken and you get what you get. If the parties involved discussed the issue calmly via PM, then most warnings would likely be rescinded or never issued in the first place. But that would be too adult for the bunch of message-board prima-donnas hiding behind the anonymity of screen-names that we are.

Yes, I have pictures.

Kitties or ponies?

Kittehs with ponies would be awesome.

Just for you.

That is just illish.

You can call other posters twats in the Pit, unless they’ve changed the rules lately. It is not on the forbidden words list.

Doesn’t mean much of anything. The one time I got in trouble with Twix it was because I made a joke and I was warned (or got a note maybe) because she decided it wasn’t funny. She later gave me one of her classic “I had a headache” excuses when I called her out on it. Since you can get a note or warning for nothing, not getting a warning doesn’t carry much meaning.

I just get the feeling that if I (or anyone from the other 99% of the board that isn’t a mod) said the same thing the result would have been a mod showing up and saying:

I know mods have some superpowers, but I don’t think “super holding of the tongue” and “failure to ever make any kind of mistake” are necessarily on the list.

Actually, every time someone complains about a mod, the crowd rises up to list every bad or semi-bad thing that mod and every other mod has ever done and what a rotten rotten bunch they are anyhow. I don’t really mind; I expect it, after all this time. But it’s really boring.

I would love for you to point out even 2 instances of that happening to, say, Gfactor or RickJay.

The reason it happens for Twickster so often is because Twickster so often has terrible judgment as a moderator.

Not about mods, but there have been plenty of instances where a mod says “Hey so and so, you broke the rules, and normally I’d just give a Mod Note, but you’ve been around long enough that you should know better, so I’m going to make this a Warning.”

I think being a Moderator should constitute being around long enough to know better. They’re the enforcer of the danged rules, they should know the danged rules.

I also think it is a valid point that Twickster giving herself a Mod Note is a bit precious. It could come across as a self-slapdown in line with what another poster would get, but it can also come across as a tweak to the offended. Especially with Twickster’s record.

A far more valid way to deal with that would be another moderator intervening, or an Admin if that’s what it takes.

Because if a moderator is going to break the rules, even inadvertently, they should at least be overseen by someone besides themselves.

Do we know that hasn’t happened behind the scenes?

That won’t work. The mob will not be satisfied with anything less that public stoning.

I was think more in the line of sharks and the smell of blood, but yours works too.

Before there are requests for tumbrils and pounds of flesh, let’s close this thread.
