Twilight Zone marathon on Sci Fi.

Television at it’s best. Some good ones have already been shown.

Time enough at last

Eye of the beholder

To serve man

More good ones to come I’m sure.

Even though I’ve seen this one a zillion times, it still creeps me out.

One of the things that’s so good about TZ is seeing so many of the actors that went on to become TV stars.

Bill Shatner

Martin Landau

Ron Howard

Claude Akins

Anne Francis

Donna Douglas

And many established stars…

Burgess Meredith

Agnes Morehead

Keenan Wynn.

John Carradine

Among many others.

Again…TV at it’s best.

Thanks for reminding me. I turned to it just in time to see the end of the one with William Shatner and that creepy fortune telling machine with the devil head on top.

I wonder what will be up next? I can see I’ll be glued to the TV for hours now . . .

Hm. Should I be thanking you for that, or not?

Ooh. Now they’re showing “A Quality of Mercy,” which stars a very young Dean Stockwell (he was also Al, for all you Quantum Leap fans). He was a fine-looking fellow. Also, it’s got Leonard Nimoy! Twilight Zone sure had some good casting choices.

As long as they don’t show that execrable one with Buster Keaton, I’ll be watching all day[rather, my VCR will be watching]

Yay for Tivo! I’ve got a whole heapin’ helpin’ just ready to go. Went through a week or so ago and picked out the old favorites I want to see again, plus a few I’ve always wanted to see but kept missing somehow. And speaking of which:

They played this a couple of days ago. I’d never actually seen it until yesterday. Sure, I knew it had a, uh, reputation, but I put it on the recording list anyway because, hey, it’s Buster Keaton, right?

Wrong.

And the script was even by Richard Matheson, usually so reliable. And Norman McLeod as the director? How did it go so off-kilter? I mean, I can’t say I hated it, but I can’t say I’d look forward to sitting through it again.

Ah well, no matter: Got to watch “Time Enough At Last” and “To Serve Man” back to back earlier this evening. Life is good. Join the Tivolution, baby.

Which is the episode where this guy is sentenced to death in a futuristic society, and he wants it televised? It’s been years since I’ve seen it…he then kills himself with a bomb before the state can kill him. He was sentenced to die because, I think, he was old and therefore no use. The man that sentenced him was tricked into thinking he would die, and after begging, the man let him go, but because it was televised, the man was shamed, and him too was sentenced to die. I hope that makes sence to someone.

Ugh…what is the name of the one were a guy is in some town and everything is fake…turns out in the end there are 2 kids looking down at their “play” town. Scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

I’ve been flipping it on and off, and then over to the Flip Wilson marathon on TVLand . . . Sadly, I have now seen every single Twilight Zone 28 times and really can’t enjoy 'em anymore . . .

“The Obsolete Man” starring Fritz Weaver as the Chancellor and Burgess Meredith as the man sentenced to death for “obsolescence” (he was a librarian). Couple of notes: the bomb was the librarian’s choice - the gimmick was that the Chancellor didn’t know it was a bomb, and the librarian locked him in the room with him as the hour of the execution approached. The Chancellor is shamed because he loses his calm and shouts, “In the name of God, let me out!” - which results in his own condemnation for obsolescence.

I sorta feel like Eve. I loved them when I was a kid, but now it’s just no fun. Now, I notice that 90% of the actors of men (and the women they show are always stupid). 99.9% of them are white. Foreigners–whether they be Mexican or Russian–all have the same fake accents. Astronauts always land on planets that are just like Earth.

But I do have my favorites.

The episode when the drunken Santa Clause has the bottomless bag of gifts.

The episode when the little girl who can read minds and refuses to talk gets put into a class with that dominatrix teacher who can also read minds.

The episode when the bride-to-be is chased by a screaming woman riding a horse, who turns out to be the bride-to-be’s future self.

The episode when the old man and his dog die and get to the pearly gates, only to discover that it was really hell (that one brings tears to my eyes).

The episode when the family has the bomb shelter and everyone and their mama wants to get inside it.

Lastly, my name is Talking Tina. And I’m going to kiiiiilll yoooou.

“Stopover in a Quiet Town”

I usually catch ones I’ve already seen, though there are plenty of “classics” that I’ve never seen. I need to check the schedule before these marathons, or rent the DVDs or something. Anyway, there’s an hour long episode, something about Cliffordsville, where the guy goes back in time to try to make more money. To do that, he makes a deal with the devil, played by an extremely hot Julie Newmar. When I first saw that episode I was racking my brain to try to figure out who the actress was, before I realized, she’s Catwoman.

Right now I’m watching the episode “Two” and a couple of things really stuck out. The price of a haircut on the poster in the barbershop is $5.00, which I suppose was to make it look as though it’s really far in the future. Also, Elizabeth Montgomery’s short skirt didn’t look too functional as a military uniform. :stuck_out_tongue:

“Of Late I Think of Cliffordville”, starring the often-underappreciated Albert Salmi.

I love that episode. It has my favorite exchange in it.

(remembering from a few years ago)
Guy: So what, do I give you my soul now?
Devil: We already have your soul. {reads list of the bad he’s done} We need money.

. . . A lot more functional than the floorlength chiffon ballgown Charles Bronson tosses to her. I expected her to say, “Yeah, why don’t a find a white tie and tails for you, ‘Adam?’”

Saw the Ida Lupino one for the first time today, the one where she’s an aging movie star longing for the old days of youth and glory. What a completely blatant ripoff of Sunset Blvd.; I’m surprised they stooped to that.

I saw the Ida Lupino one today as well…but I just kept looking at her thinking she looks so much like Allison Janney.
