I scroll to the bottom of my Winamp playlist, and casually notice the number of files I have… 2936. “Hmm” I think.
“I wonder”… After a quick pawing through the first dozen CD cases close by I determine the average album has about 12 tracks. Most of the music I’ve got is older and hard to find, the kind of thing you’d pay 20 odd dollars an album for (CDN).
20/12=1.66
2936*1.66=4873.76
Nearly five grand in music. I’d say I’m a bit more cyber-savvy than most my peers, and to be fair a large portion of that music is ripped from legit CDs for my MP3 player. But, spread that 1000-8000 figure over a nation of people, thats a large chunk of cash.
Then I rationalized the situation. Think of all the less-known bands 20 years ago that wouldn’t have had a fraction of the exposure that bands these days can. Concerts, merch, sponsorships etc.
For a moment I was going to let a moment of conscience change my ways.
Phew.
How many simoleons of hot music YOU packin’?
