[QUOTE=WhyNot]
Nothing’s wrong with it, if you’re the right kind of person for it.
Do you like to plan ahead for contingencies? Do you like to know everything that could possibly go wrong so you can sort out what you’ll do ahead of time? Do you like medical stuff and understanding not only your own pregnancy, but pregnancy in general? Then you’re the kind of person for whom *What to Expect… *is written. It’s incredibly thorough and covers all sorts of possible medical events that are incredibly unlikely, but may make some people feel empowered to know about. They also cover general fetal development, what to expect at each pre-natal visit, nutrition (including lots of great recipes), labor and delivery, lactation and the first six post-partum weeks. Everything in there that I’ve indepentantly verified has been accurate.
On the other hand, are you the kind of person who puts trust in the process and the universe to smooth out the rough bumps? Would you rather not think about unpleasant things, or deal with them “if they come up”, but not before? Will hearing about unlikely problems make you sick and anxious? Do you trust your doctor or midwife to tell you everything you need to know, and leave the worrying to them? Then you’re most definitely NOT a *What to Expect… *person.

I just didn’t care for the condescending tone that permeated the book - that’s just IMO. I found other books that were more detailed and were more straightforward in presenting info.
Ying and Dotty, it’ll just come down to exploring what’s out there and sticking with what makes you comfortable. I’ll post some recs soon.
