Two hit wonders

Aqualung never even made the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. I suspect that it was never released as a single–Progressive Rock groups tended to promote album sales in lieu of trying for hit singles.

Other Top 40 hits for Kansas included Point of Know Return, People of the South Wind, Play The Game Tonight, and All I Wanted.

B52s - “Roam” and “Loveshack”

the Refreshments - “Bandito” and “Down Together”

Two pages into the thread and nobody has mentioned The Romantics?
What I Like About You
Talking In Your Sleep (best video ever foir a horny 16 year old - well, at least until David Lee Roth released the video for his cover of California Girls)

aktep - What about “Rock Lobster”? It may not have hit the top 40 (AMG says it peaked at #56), but I don’t think you could go to a party in the 80s and not hear that song. That makes it a hit in my book.

As for Jethro Tull, I’m pretty sure Thick as a Brick Edit #1 made it to the charts, didn’t it?

My list:

The Troggs: Wild Thing and Love is All Around

Traffic: Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Dear Mr. Fantasy

The Knack: My Sharona, Good Girls Don’t

Nilsson: Everybody’s Talkin’, Jump Into the Fire

(I’m going from memory here, so I’m sure someone will be along to mention ones I’ve forgotten or correct me :))

How about The Knack with:

“Good Girls Don’t”
“My Sharona”

Damn! Beaten to the punch!

OK then, I’ll go with The Marshall Tucker Band with:

“Heard It in a Love Song”
“Fire on the Mountain”

Actually, if you go back and re-read the thread, I think that you’ll find that they were mentioned. Take a guess who mentioned them

Either I and my browsers search function are both blind as a bat, or the previous Romantics post got eaten or mislaid by the hamsters. Either way, sorry

Anyway…

spoke- Don’t feel bad about being late for the Knack, as they were 3, count 'em, 3-hit wonders. You musn’t forget “Baby Talks Dirty”. It was big enough for Weird Al to parody (“Baby Likes Burping”) and if that isn’t the definition of a hit, I don’t know what is.

:eek:Wow, I could have sworn I mentioned the Romantics. Yeah, either my post got ate, or I have very crappy memory.

Uncle John’s Band was never a hit.

Here’s one: April Wine had Enough Is Enough and Sign of the Gypsy Queen.

Oh, and Kansas had another song that got a lot of play on MTV. Fight Fire With Fire.

There’s an awful lot of singles in any given year that are top 40. Are they all hits?

What about Tesla with “Love Song” and “Signs”? Not sure if either of those were big enough to be consider hits though…

Anyone remember a group called Zebra. Tell Me What You Want and Who’s Behind The Door.

April Wine’s biggest hit was “I Like To Rock”. And Kansas had more than a dozen songs in the top 40.

Falco had more hits than that, at least here in Europe – enouh to make a “Greatest Hits” album. “Vienna Calling” and “Jeanny” come to mind.

For the record, Corey Hart also had a hit with a remake of Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love”.

Now, here’s one that should make any 80’s phile cringe… Don Johnson

In addition to these songs, they also had, among others, Comin’ Atcha Live, Edison’s Medicine, The Way It Is, and others.

Does Fiona Apple qualify? I don’t recall any songs other than Sleep to Dream and Criminal.

Ghost Wind, I don’t know of any other song Johnson had besides Heartbeat, do you?

A fairly recent one would be Fastball, with their songs “The Way” and “Out of My Head”.

I liked these guys, and the single from their third album, “You’re an Ocean” was just as good, but got washed away by the tide. (Bad pun intended)
