Since my flight home isn’t direct, and I got it through Hotwire, I get to spend a couple of hours in the Cincinatti Fly-Away from 5:30-7:30 tomorrow evening.
Any recommendations for a good bar and grille there?
As always, if you live near there, you’re welcome to join me for a brew or two.
Cincinnati airport is in Kentucky. There is an Outback in the main part of the Delta terminal, and there is a brewpub sort of place in the Comair/Delta Connection part. Those are probably your best two bets. Not likely anyone is going to be able to get past security to meet you, and unless your layover is much longer than 2 hours probably not worth it to get out to anywhere and back past securtiy for your flights. If you want to chance it, there is a good Japanese restaurant, right next to the Toyota North America headquarters, one exit down the pike from the airport. The name is Jo-An’s off exit 3 on I-275 (?) there.
Quasi unless you just want to leave the airport, try the brew pub. It’s actually pretty good for an airport place. I’m making the assumption you’re on Delta bein’ as where you live and all. Even if you’re not, Cincy airport is kinda easy to get around.
If you’re in the Delta terminal, about halfway down one of the sides (can’t remember which) there is one of these “tastes from home” (or something like that) shops adjacent to a magazine shop. You can get all these foods and stuff that are particular to some area of the country. In that shop, you can get Graeter’s ice cream (from Ohio) - particularly the raspberrry chocolate chip. Killer. I’d highly recommend it.
As far as meeting anyone, I have never flown out of Cinci, but wouldn’t they have an atrium with bars and stuff? I mean I know I’d have to go through security again, but what the hell.
I’ve only flown through Cincinatti once, but unless it’s changed in the last five years or so, there’s plenty enough inside the airport to entertain you. I remember dashing through a mall of some sort.
Here’s a list of restaurants in the airport. I was with a school group, so I can’t recommend one. http://www.cvgairport.com/shop/results.php?tc=1-2-3-A-B-C&st=fd-sg-sv&so=
Not really. Most of the bars and stuff are inside, past Security. Especially in the main terminal area that houses Delta. The other terminals do have a little space, but it’s not especially nice or anything. Although if I still lived in the 'Nati (one T) I’d go up and meet you. I’m weird like that, though.
There’s an Outback and some other nice places on Concourse B, so that’ll be fine.
Flew out of Pittsburgh a couple of years ago and wore my Straight Dope t-shirt, just to see what would happen, and someone did come close when he noticed the shirt, but never quite made it to the introduction stage.
It’s right now 4 AM, and I’m awake and on Germany time to try to combat the jet-lag problem, but I don’t know if it’s gonna wo
Thanks, EH, I did have a nice visit with my friends and family.
Weird, though (hijacking my own thread again): In addition to the “no snow”, when the wind blew, it blew damp cold air, and one needed a sweater and a jacket/coat. But when the wind was still, a t-shirt and jeans would have sufficed.
During that time, it was actually colder here in Georgia, USA, than in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany.
I know it’s too early to be sure, but “global warming” was sure on my mind, and I overheard the term being used by a few American tourists as well.
