I assume this is a mistake.
They used to be separate forums, but were merged. I hadn’t realized that people could still post to forums after they were set to not be visible, that doesn’t seem quite right. Though, given that people would have to manually type in the forumid to find it, it also doesn’t seem like a serious issue.
The part that might make it an issue is that it appears new postsare coming in even as of today, from people clicking “comment on this column”.
At the bottom of staff reports on the main site, clicking ‘comment on this column’ still leads to the old forum.
So merged forums don’t work like merged usernames, where one of the userids become invalid? Interesting.
I’m not sure if there’s an easy fix, as you’d either need to make a redirect or fix the coding of the main website. Just deleting the forum (if that is possible) would leave anyone who clicks on that link getting an error.
All the Staff Reports have a link on the bottom of them that takes you to the Staff Report forum.
I have asked that it be changed and apparently it’s not been done.
I’ll ask again.
Actually I think I fixed this, found the redirect. Try it now.
I just did a test, and it now goes to the combined Comments on Cecil’s Columns/Staff Reports.
