Two weeks to..... Oblivion

My Documents/My Games/Oblivion/Saves/

You should have lots of saves. I show 32 plus the quicksave and the autosave.

Say wha? I have over 5 myself. Maybe you are hitting the wrong keys or something? Though I wonder why old save slots vanish when you hit Quicksave? Isn’t there just one slot for quicksave on your list?

The “forces unknown” message has to do with a quest, not with the guards.

I’m on the PC and probably have from 50-75 saves currently. Add to that 1 quicksave and 1 autosave.

I haven’t tried it, but there is a “No Psychic Guards” mod.

OK, so I made the mistake of stealing from someone who’s in the Mage’s Guild and got summarily kicked out. In order to get back in, the jackass at Arcane U wants me to get him 50 units of Dragon Tongue Flower and 50 units of some other flowery thing.

I went to one of the alchemy shops in the market district and bought a whole 2 units of the first one, and they didn’t have the second.

Is there an easy way to do this that doesn’t include riding around the wilderness for hours looking for the right plants for this jackass?

Not as far as I’m aware. Depending on whether or not you feel it’s cheating, a reload here would save you a lot of time…

According to the Prima Guide, Dragon’s Tongue

Fort Redwater, along the Black Marsh border; northeast of Leyawiin; scattered throughout the West Weald between Skingrad and Bravil

And Redwort Flowers:

southeast of Fieldhouse Cave in County Leyawiin, near the Black Marsh border; Ayleid ruins of Wendelbek and Morahame on the eastern side of Niben Bay; the West Weald between Skingrad and Bravil

Good thing you didn’t kill somebody in the Mage’s Guild. That punishment:

collect 20 portions of vampire dust and 20 Daedra hearts

I think the object here is not to kill the members of the Mage’s Guild or steal from them. Just a guess.

Oh, and the funniest thing I’ve seen so far happened as I walked up a very steep hill between Imperial City and Chorrol. At the very top of the hill, I noticed something (with Detect Life on). A rat suddenly charged me and leapt. I sidestepped and turned around to face it.

Except it wasn’t there.

I moved down the hill a bit, cautiously, and found the rat had died from the fall and was now rolling bonelessly down the hill, flop flop flop flop flop.

Stupid stupid rat creatures.

Great story. It reminds me to mention that there seems to be no key to do a quick turnaround when someone attacks from behind. I used that all the time in FFXI, but find “mousing around” to be slow and awkward.

Thanks Fish, that’ll make is much quicker. I’m not above reloading a savegame, but I just got through a particularly onerous dungeon and the only applicable save would be before that.

Hafta say, I’m getting a little tired of wolves chasing my horse and not being able to shoot them from horseback.

I am enjoying playing different characters, though. Just to keep things interesting I’ve given each of them a completely pointless Thing To Hoard.

My Battlemage, for instance, collects cheese.
My Monk collects shoes.
My Orc Crusader collects flowers. His name, of course, is Og.

Sounds like great fun, Fish. Here’s a new mod, great for looting dungeons, etc. The Bag of Holding lets you heavy stuff and it only weighs one feather. Made by one of the modders who did The Dimensional Pocket .

I hope someone may know the answer to this:

I’m doing the main story quest. I’m supposed to go to shrines to collect Daedric artifacts, but whenever I try to activate the shrines, they say that the god or goddess requires a champion of higher level. (I’m level 5.)

Am I doing something wrong?

Oops, forgot to mention Mannequins! . You can even drop them into your Dimensional Pocket.

Wrong, Lissa? I haven’t read any of the quests in the book — not until I’m doing them, that is — but I did chance to notice that many of the Daedric shrine thingies are level-based. In fact, one Daedric shrine can’t be activated until you’ve completed all the others.

At level 5 you can do the quests for:

Azura (level 2), Namira (level 5), Sheogorath (level 2), Vaermina (level 5)
In the book Modern Heretics (sez here) it gives you the location of Azura’s shrine. Also sez here it’s in the Jerall Mountains, north of Lake Arrius, for what that’s worth.

Just killed a bunch of goblins near Chorrol were raiding a farm. One of them died and fell over onto a pile of the others. The ragdoll physics didn’t like the way he settled in, so he kept wiggling his pelvis.

But the funny part was he kept making “clank, I just hit the ground” noises, jiggling his pelvis while looking up at the stars. Endlessly.

That’s comedy gold.

How do I drag a body? I keep seeing people mention it but I can’t figure it out. Someone help me out?

Hit Z, the grab key, on a part of the body.

Hmm, maybe that’ll work to remove arrows that stick out of your own armor.

There’s an optimized version of the new beta Nvidia 84.25 driver out that is getting good improvement, over and above the Nvidia version for some people. At your own risk, of course.

Something very strange:

When I click on objects like dressers, there’d be a 1-2 second delay before the container menu popped up. Annoying, but I dealt with it.

Also, when I killed something, there would be a half second pause and then it would ragdoll.
I started a new character, and both of those things are gone. Containers load instantly, and no post-kill pause. wtf?
