Typhoon Longwang Washes Away 59 Chinese Soldiers

I mean…come on…I mean, really?

Wong Way(sp?) from that EP-E3 spy plane incident a few years ago was worth a titter. But the Chinese’ American relations department must give out prizes if they can make us guffaw by using our own stereotypes of them.

Moving thread from IMHO to MPSIMS.

Long = Dragon
Wang = Glory, or prestige

Naming a typhoon “Dragon’s Glory” or “Dragon’s Prestige” doesn’t sounds too corny to me. I believe you simply have no idea what you are talking about. The Chineses have the right to use any words they want.

And I have a right to laugh at it if I think it’s funny. Life is too short. I didn’t ask for a translation. It’s eaier to get than to expect some ostentatious erudite to step in and learn me the error of my ways, hence I put it in IMHO. :rolleyes:

I wonder how many of our Hurricane names translate into funny/offensive things in other languages. ‘Katrina’ could mean ‘donkey fucker’ in Swahili, as far as I know. Which would suck for people named Katrina, of course.

Happy donkeys though.
