Season 2 of Tyrant premieres tonight on FX; who else is watching?
Well they weren’t fooling anyone with the execution swap out, and Jamal just made a colossal mistake with Barry. I look forward to watching that bite him in the ass (as well as [del]ISIS[/del]the Caliphate being an even bigger bad).
The best move for Jamal would have been to send Barry home, warning him he would be executed if he ever returned.
Jamal goes on 60 Minutes and tells the world of his brothers betrayal, and forgives him, looks like the good guy, and hopefully Barry realizes that if he tries to campaign against Jamal from abroad, he might look like a dick, wizens up and goes back to being a doctor back home.
If its revealed Barry is still alive, it just cannot be a good look for Jamal. Im interested in seeing how the writers weasel out of this one.
I do love this show, BLROTHER!!!
And the funny thing is Jamal is actually right to have Barry put to death. The audience knows that he’s factually guilty of treason; he actively conspired with a foreign government to overthrow his own. He could executed for the same thing in the US (albeit after a fair trial and a decade or two on death row). You don’t fail at a coup and expect to live (& if you succeed you’re a patriot instead of a traitor). Also was anyone else incredulous that the Chinese were taking over the American embassy? :dubious: Sure it’s not surprising that Jamal would terminate diplomatic relations with the US, but why would China want a building that the CIA had a change to fill with bugs?
The first season was OK but not great, I thought. I’ve decided not to watch S2 but will follow this thread to see how things go. If it’s fantastic maybe I’ll catch it on DVD.
Obviously IRL Barry would be executed or deported with a very strong warning, and perhaps even then prosecuted back in the U.S.: Logan Act - Wikipedia
I thought the first episode of S2 was tedious . Don’t know if I’ll give it much more time, but will follow this thread.
I wonder where they’re going with Sammy inheriting a $100M. How old is he supposed to be anywhere; the actor seems to have bulked up a lot since last season?
This show is becoming very predictable. Also, stupid plot devices just to force parts of the story are slowly starting to creep up.
I’m vaguely interested in the show for the long game that’s being played.
From what I’ve read prior to the show’s start, the tyrant of the title is not the father or the brother currently ruling the country, but the American-educated brother who attempted a coup.
The show is based, in part, on the story of Bashar al-Assad, the ruler of Syria. He was an ophthalmologist educated in the UK. Some in the west thought that Assad would be less brutal than his father. But of course, he’s been really brutal.
Similarly, at the beginning of the show, Barry seems reasonable and someone who would want a democracy. But eventually, he’s going to be ruling the country as a brutal dictator
I’ve always had a feeling that’s where this is going too. Hope the show lasts long enough for us to get there!
That would be a very boring, predictable plotline for the series
I had the same suspicion. Just my wildass speculation:
Barry will do one bad thing, then a worse one, and then a worse one still, all because he will rationalize that he’s better than his brother and won’t become a tyrant like him, or like other Middle Eastern despots. When all is said and done, he will have become a monster and proved Lord Acton correct.
We’ve already seen that show. It was called Son’s Of Anarchy…
And of course Sons of Anarchy is completely original.
Yeah, I was hoping it didn’t go down that path but, it did…
It’s looking more and more like Jamal is the lesser of 2 evils (the ISIS-analogue being the greater). Also I predict as soon as Sammy set’s foot in Abbudin he’ll be arrested as a terrorist based on his connection to Abdul (& getting a phone call from Abdul right before the assignation attempt. They have to have figured out that Adbul was in Ahmed’s entourage by now, and I always had found in hard to believe him & Sammy were flying under everyone’s radar. On the bright side it was funny watching Jamal & Ahmed bond over all the boring crap a dictator has to deal with.
Well at least Sammy is finally getting an idea of what being gay in the Middle East (at least outside of Israel) is actually like; Abdul is likely he’s already dead and not in the Caliphate’s hands. Jamal beating Tariq to death was a nice surprise.
I have to admit this is a very entertaining train wreck. Sad to see Amira go, but at least she went out with a bang. Jamal is giving Hitler in the Führerbunker at a run for his money. Barry’s just the least evil and least stupid of the Al-Fayeeds. It’s like a bunch of Julio-Claudians have been reincarnated.
