U.S.-Iranian confrontation in the Gulf of Hormuz

And they could have planted WMDs or the materials to make them in Iraq to bolster their lies. They didn’t, because they are a pack of incompetents. To the extent that they cooked up this incident, they did it badly because they do just about everything badly.

Rather obviously, both are attempts by the US to create the perception that we were attacked ( or rather harassed, in this case ). That’s the connection.

Well the are similar in many ways:
The both involved the US Navy
They happened in a gulf of some sort
They also involved nations with who we are not particularly friendly
They took place on water
They are different, however, in many ways:
No shots were fired in the GoH
The US was already involved in covery military actions against North Vietnam when the GoT incident occured
Both sides seem to be playing up the GoH incident as a “misunderstanding” and it has largely been forgotten in the media
The GoH incident seems much more heavily documented than the GoT
Seems a fairly tenuous connection at best.

Bush Authorizes New Covert Action Against Iran

Not to make too fine a point of it, but I meant actual military operations into North Vietnam. That does not appear to be the case yet.

There’s rumors.
I wouldn’t expect us to know until something goes wrong.
