I think his hattrick days are over. Maybe in opera leagues, but not in international championships.
The BBC commentator was saying that (before this game) Ronaldo has taken 58 direct free-kicks at major international tournaments and has scored just 1 goal from them. “Maybe let someone else have a go”.
But that would be lèse-majesté!

I’m rooting for Slovenia but I do also want to see France vs Portugal in the next round!
These teams have only looked good in little bursts, and Slovenia seems incapable of putting together a string of passes under any kind of pressure.
Also, the only way I root for Portugal in any shape or form is if Pepe scores the winning goal.

That’s exactly what the Slovenian fans have been doing every time Ronaldo gets close.
I am experiencing quite a lot of schadenfreude at the moment. Plenty of time for other things to happen, but I’ll take that special moment.
I was just telling my wife that it’s not good to wallow in schadenfreude this much, but that I will continue for some minutes more nonetheless.
