Possibly, but I bet they finish first.
That sprung to my mind as well. Fantastic win for Ukraine.
If Belgium beat Romania we will have all four teams on 3 points in Group E.
I appreciated your whole post, but as a Bayern fan I wanted to echo this - his supporting play, including those ridiculous long diagonals to (for example) Leroy Sané, have been fun to watch and a surprise because I didn’t watch Tottenham.
I’m changing my “most likely team to win” from France to Spain after seeing recent matches…
Hmmm.
Was not expecting such a poor showing from France. Or maybe the Dutch just were really strong;)
After seeing most of the top teams play twice, I concur. Spain is making its opponents play a much faster game than they want. That style worked for Bayern in the CL a couple of years ago and Spain seems superbly organized and energetic with its pressing.
Oh gosh, terrible own goal by the Turks. Already 2-0 for Portugal after 30 minutes.
ETA: hah, a Portuguese player, Rafael Leao, gets his second yellow in his second game and is out for the next game, both for…diving.
On type.
Just out of curiosity, for the Dopers not watching in Germany: what publicity do you read on the sides? We have for instance Ergo Insurance, Deutsche Telekom, Lidl, Alibaba, Vivo (?), visit Qatar, Amton (?), Betano (???Betting arse?? oh, well…).
And the Portuguese are playing this second half from right to left.
What do you see?
You mean on the hoardings around the pitch?
The international sponsors are always there.

Also: Hisense, Vivo, Betano, BYD, Strauss. I think they are actually as they are shown in the stadium rather than added as an effect for TV which would be noticeable with people and objects moving in front of them.
German TV showed a warning at half time: “Includes virtual advertising”. And then I saw that the publicity here in Germany was in German, and I guess they mean that. They translate the slogans from mostly the same sponsors (Coca Cola? Don’t remember that one).
Huh maybe I’m wrong. The close ups with the hoarding in the corner appeared to be showing the same as the wide angle.
I also remember in the '90s in Brussels, where you had access to the national TV channels of many European states, I saw an international game (or perhaps Champions League game) where both countries showed the pitch from opposite sides with different sponsors, each side of the pitch made for a different audience. And so when in one channel team A attacked from left to right in the first half, they played from right to left on the other. I found it curious, and it seems they have improved the capacity to change the sponsors for different audiences.
Which also means TV can be manipulated in real time, also for other purposes. But perhaps I am only being paranoid.
But I doubt that the international audience would care to see ads from Deutsche Bahn (German railroad), Bitburger Bier or that BYD is “Nummer 1 in Elektrofahrzeuge”, they are too expensive for that.
Hisense, on the other hand, has the money to insist its ads be shown in Chinese.
Interesting solution.
I see in F1 they use virtual advertising, but that’s next to the track so very unlikely to be behind any action. But even on that you can tell. I would swear the hoardings in that game were genuine.
The design is up the the advertiser - within set guidelines of course. Wouldn’t cost any extra.
It would not cost extra, that is not what I meant. But they show the world they don’t care to translate it for them, they are not the audience, but they don’t want to give their slots in non Chinese TV channels to another, perhaps local sponsor, which would save them money. They don’t care and want to show it.
Rescinded, I had a brainfart, sorry.
If Belgium wins this, all four teams in the group will have three points. Could make for an interesting last matchday.
And a wonderful wide direct assist by goalie Koen Casteels for Kevin de Bruyne’s goal.
Huge game this - Croatia need to beat Italy to take second away from them. And that might conceivably put the defending champions out.
We’ll see if Italy will play good old Catenaccio.
ETA: looks so after 4 minutes.
