Any Dopers gonna watch this? I know not many people on this board watch mma, but as this is a free card on Fox I thought maybe there’d be some interest. As I understand it the preliminary card is on Fuel at 5pm and then the main card starts on Fox at 8 o’clock.

I’m very excited for these fights, as I’m a a fan of Rashad Evans and he’ll get to take on John Jones for the title if he wins, which I fully expect he will against Phil Davis. Phil is very tough, but I don’t think he’s anywhere near experienced enough to take on Rashad right now. I’m not sure how the wrestling will play out, but Phil won’t submit Rashad and over 5 rounds I’m pretty sure Evans will be able to catch Phil while they’re standing.

The other two fights are also good. Michael Bisping takes on Chael Sonnen on a number one contender match, so the winner gets the dubious honor of losing to Anderson Silva here in Brazil this summer. Originally Bisping was scheduled to face Demian Maia but they moved him up to face Sonnen after Mark Munoz got hurt, which I think is a shame. I don’t see any way Bisping takes this and fully expect Sonnen to take him down and hold him there for three full rounds, which will make me sad, as I hate the cheating, xenophobic, criminal Sonnen. Still, Chael being Chael, there’s always a chance Bisping will be able to put him in a triangle and force a tap.

The last fight on the main card is Demian Maia versus Chris Weidman. Weidman is a very good young prospect and had a respectable showing on last years ADCC, but he has almost no stand-up yet and he took the fight on ten day’s notice. I expect (and hope) Demian will be the better fighter while they’re on their feet and will be able to Weidman on the ground, being the jiu jitsu wizard that he is, but Weidman is somehow ahead of him in the eyes of the bookmakers.

So, Dopers, will you watch the fights? What do you think will happen?

I will take Evans over Davis. The biggest worry I have for Rashad is he seems to get dazed almost every fight. I think he might end up like Liddel in the near future.

I really cant stand Sonnen or Bisping. I think Sonnen will win. Miller did not have much trouble holding Bisping down before he gassed. I also think Bisping get pushed by the UFC in order to help build a British following. He doesn’t seem to be at an elite level at any facet of his game. Sonnen is prone to being submitted but I think that is because he tends to be more active from the top position then most wrestling based fighters. How good is Bispings BJJ?

I have no idea on the last fight. I havent seen Weidman fight before so don’t want to make a guess.

Take all these predictions with a huge grain of salt. Due to bad timing and commitments I have not been able to watch too many fights in the last 6 months or so.
