Uggs

That’s exactly my experience C3. We wore them as kids because they were great as slippers on cold winter mornings. They were never about making a fashion statement and they were bought quite cheaply from shops like Target. We weren’t allowed to wear them in public. My mother still makes the “westie” comment when she sees someone wearing them on the street.

I love mine! They are so comfortable and they just slip on and off very easily. I am also a board certified cold wimp and even in Norhtern California my feet get cold during the winter. Although I love them, I have NEVER worn them with a short skirt, seems to defeat the purpose of keeping warm if you are weraing a short skirt. I also do not tuck them into my jeans nor do I wear them in the summer. What’s the point in that?

Mine were a little over a hundred bucks…But I have seen them on sale for about $80.00 recently.

[HIJACK]“Westie” traditionally refers to a person from the western suburbs of Sydney, because that is the traditional blue collar area (away from the real estate close to the city centre or with water views). I’m quite proud to be a “westie”, and most people don’t find it at all offensive (depending on how you say it I suppose). These days, the obscenely high house prices in Sydney have changed the demographics of the western suburbs, and many of them are quite middle class, so “westie” does not any longer have quite have the accuracy for describing the type of person your husband was mentioning. For the Australian version of mulletted, nicotine stained Jerry Springer fodder, you’d probably use the term “ferals” (or “bogans” if you’re in Melbourne). And yes, ugg boots seemed to get a stigma here about 1983, and as far as I know it is still in place.[/here endeth the hijack]

I’ve got a pair (not the ones that are “in” right now; mine are shorter than those, just above the ankle, and smooth leather rather than suede and with a shade more of a heel). They are comfy and warm and have good traction, and I live in a frequently cold climate. I bought them on super-duper sale, in August, years ago, before anyone thought of them as a fashion statement, and would never dream of wearing them with a miniskirt, or anything but winter clothing, for that matter.

I buy footwear, particularly winter boots boots, for functionality, not as a fashion statement; due to some medically installed hardware holding my tibia together, I have a hard time finding footgear that doesn’t leave me in pain, and anyone who disapproves of my choices can frankly go to hell.

I live in the Adirondacks and it gets might freakin’ cold here. I can be out ice fishing all day and my feet never get cold. I could care less what they look like as long as my feet are comfy and warm. Try on a pair and see what you think.

I have the tall ones. They’re not quite as warm as they used to be; but then, I’ve had them a long, long time and the fleece is a little compacted on the bottoms. Still, they do keep my feet toasty. I don’t know how I’d get through the Winter without them. My Sorels are warmer, so I use those when tramping through the snow; but they are very heavy. (Wouldn’t get rid of my Sorels, either.)

I looked into new Uggs a few years ago at The Boot Barn (who happened to have a sign painted on their window saying they had them). I was shocked to see how expensive they’ve become. I don’t remember how much I paid for mine, but they came from REI so I paid full retail at the time (and got 10% back when I got my dividend cheque). They weren’t very expensive when I bought them. When I checked The Boot Barn a few years ago, they were over $100! I passed on them. Mine are still fine.

There’s another brand of Ugg-type boots that are actually made in Australia. IIRC, they’re cheaper than Uggs. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the brand.

Seems to me there are two types of posters here. Those who like Uggs because they do what they’re supposed to do, and those who hate them because they’ve become ‘fashionable’ for some reason. I can’t say that I’ve noticed anyone wearing them as fashion items. That would be a bit silly.

Huh. I guess I’ll be the lone dissenting voice here and say I like girls with miniskirts and UGGs. Although I really dispise jeans tucked into UGGs. Practical be damned, it just looks cute to me. Especially with a scarf and long jacket.

I thought you lived in California? If you do, then I’d love to know what rock in the greater Los Angeles area you’ve been living under…

I moved away over a year ago. Now I live up next to the Canadian border.

As for the rock… Well, there was the Johnny Cave (my flat). It may just be that I don’t notice footwear.

I adore my Uggs. They are the most comfortable shoes I own and I like the way they look with a short mini skirt.

Got photos?

I see that you can buy replacement insoles for $15!

I’ve never owned a pair of Uggs, and never really had any desire to (they really don’t appeal to me aesthetically), but that Pit thread led me to their website for the first time and I found these, and fell in love with them so much that I asked Thomas to get me a pair for my birthday next month.

The 25th? 26th? (Ooh, I’m terrible with dates!) It’s your anniversary too, innit?

Can you e-mail me your new address?

If you’re wearing them in front of the fireplace at the ski resort, whatever. That’s fine.

Walking around campus in Uggs almost to your knees and a mini skirt? No. You look ridiculous. You look like a 3-year old whose mother let pick their own clothes.

I hate them. I don’t care if you use them as slippers or when skiing or whatever, but what is the deal with the girls that cuff up their jeans to show off these travisties of footware. And here in MA, where we’ve had one of the snowiest winters in history, everything looks grimy. It’s one thing for my Doc Martin’s to be coated in road grime, because I will take care of them once we finish thawing. How the hell to you de-salt and sand pink suede or synthisuede?

Sorry Johnny L.A. I dont have any photos or I would post them  …Maybe I will snap some this weekend and prove to yall that they are simply adorable with the right mini…and way more comfy that high heels.

Mint Julep, clearly we have been brainwashed by the masses into thinking UGGs and mini skirts looks good. As for the rest of you, all I can say is pbtttttt!

That is the only explanation audiobottle!

It cant be that they simply are cute on some folks!
