Ugh, I hate computer related GQ's but Norton won't let me in

I’ll start by saying that yes, I checked the sticky beforehand, because these questions do seem monotonous.

I have Norton Internet Security on my computer, which is not updated. My girlfriend took it upon herself to update the newest AVG software as well as every single ad-on there is that comes with it. I don’t know how the two are connected, but all of a sudden Norton has gone haywire and hijacked my computer with unupdated notices and is blocking several sites. Now I have tried to disengage these functions, but Norton is asking for a password… and I never gave this program password protection. So I can’t get into or change any of the features. It’s not that I don’t want Norton, but it’s annoyed me to death and now I’m just trying to unistall it but I can’t without this mystery password.

What the heck can I do? Do I have to go in through DOS and literally cut it out of my drive?

I have Windows XP home.
The Norton Program is Internet Security 2005, which was not reupdated as of October 2006.
The new AVG program was downloaded this week and everything has goten worse and worse since then in an oddly progressive manner. I say oddly because I would have expected everything to be all-at-once if the two had something to do with each other, but no, it’s almost a coincidence that this has started happening now.

Thanks for the help.

You cannot install two active antivirus programs at one time. It is guarnteed to cause all sorts of problems. Remove the Norton, it is bad enough all by itself.

Sorry forgot to include the link:

Norton Removal Tool

Seconded; never again will I ever put a Norton product on my machine, and if you’re not updating it, get rid. Moreover, if I were you I’d probably uninstall and reinstall AVG once you’ve ousted Norton. There’s really no telling what those two programs have done while fighting for control of your computer; Norton may have blocked crucial bits of AVG from installing, for example. Get the system clean and start from scratch.

AVG is a decent product, it just needs a fair chance.

Thank you very much. We can let this thread sink and die. But thanks again.
