Uh-Oh...Another Kitty At Kasa Kalhoun

I liking “Scout.” And yay to her for her first mouse! Baby’s growing up!

Don’t ask US, ask the kitty. Her name might be Scout, or Anastasia, or Li’l Miss Stinkbutt. Only she knows.

Luna! And congrats.

I don’t have any name ideas at the moment but I do have this to offer.

This advice comes a bit late, but…here goes.

Protocol for Introducing a New Cat to a Multi-cat Environment

  1. Confirm the health status of the new cat prior to introduction.

  2. Prepare a secure room for the new cat. This new room will be free of existing cats.

  3. House the new cat in the secure room, for about a week. The cats will acclimate to each others’ presence and smells in this fashion.

  4. After about a week, allow the cats to interact, under supervision. This continues for a week or two.

  5. Release the new cat into the environment.

They’ll still fight, but the process is less stressful.

We tried that. Unfortunately, she only speaks Vietnamese. She keeps saying, MOW!

We did all the above, with the exception of the full week in quarantine. She did a couple days. They’re actually doing quite well. Ms. Bitchypants is way more relaxed with new females than with those big ol’ boy cats. I think she may be a lesbian.

She looks just like my Mom’s cat, Kavina. Kavina was an adult stray who had adopted a college friend/housemate of mine. Friend/housemate got accepted to med school far away, and couldn’t take Kavina, so she became mine. A couple of years later, I decided to move far away, and couldn’t take Kavina, so my Mom took her.

She’s been quite happy there for going on 9 years now. She seems to have much longevity, as the vet put her age at around 3 or 4 when friend/housemate had her fixed. Plus 2, plus 2 more, plus 9, carry the 7…That makes her at least 16 years old now, and she looks pretty just like the first time I met her.

Kavina also has amber eyes and we constantly have folks asking if she’s a Russian Blue.

“Kavina”, according to friend/housemate was Swedish for “woman”, but that term is actually “kvinna”.

Still a cool name though, imho.
