I recently got talktalk broadband, with a theoretical speed of 8mb. I’ve got a Huawei hg520b wireless router. My laptop is a Acer Aspire 5520 with 802.11b/g/n wireless. It works pretty well, but I can’t seem to get much faster than about 1.6 to 2.2 mbits. I wondered if anyone has some tips for improving my speed please. Thanks.
You’ll likely find that that’s a theoretical speed of up to 8mb. “Up to” being two little words that annoy many a broadband customer.
To see if the lack of speed is down to your using WiFi, plug the laptop directly into the router and see what speeds you get. If it’s about the same, then you’re probably lumbered with it.
Some basic hints for attempting to improve speed are here.
Thanks Kal, that link was helpful. Will check the speed with the laptop wired to the router.
