UK Border Force runs "Interment Sites" for Asylum Seekers?

Twenty out of about 300.

Ignoring the non-debate nature of the OP, it’s worth pointing out that Pjen’s cite from the *Independent *is to an opinion piece - hence the somewhat one-sided ( ! ) bit on Vietnam in the same article but that the basic facts on Yarl’s Wood are not in dispute. Some at least of the staff were abusive and have now been suspended. See this BBC reportfor a recent update.

I’d just like to point out that most articles in the Guardian are also opinion pieces, no matter which page of the paper they appear on.

Right, but it still contradicts the idea that every county, city and town in the US has its own flag

You’re right. I should have put some qualifier in there like:

What on earth are you banging on about Pjen?

These are immigration detention centres Yarls Woods is run by Serco and is part of the private sector prisons, to which I am actually pretty hostile because it means recruiting and paying staff at much lower levels, with lower staffing levels - and the almost continuous history of problems is a direct result of these cheapest first policies.

This is a long running sore, its also a fact that of all the prisons that are in the UK, every single one of the privately operated prisons are in the bottom quarter in all the performance standings. Again, its easy enough to understand why, the pay that is offered simply does not attract enough potential employees, which in turn means they take what they can get - staff of a lower calibre, with poor training and a disconnect from the majority public sector employed staff - which means that good practices simply do not take root.

The numbers of staff in these places are low, and its also a fact that in report after report on ‘Measuring the Quality Of Prison Life’ - which is a major indicator of how well prisons are operated, all the private sector prisons come out very low due to inmates feeling bullied, and unsafe.

That said, what you are trying to portray in these places is some sort of Guantanamo lite experience, this is just so far from the truth that I feel it is not even worth discussing with you.

Instead I shall point out that the blue background in the Yorkshire flag has changed over the years from dark blue to a much lighter colour - but I still prefer the older version

Well said, casdave.

It’s a comment piece by a C4 journalist with a programme to sell. It would have been nice to know that from the OP rather than waste everyone’s time trying to find that out.
