Twinkies
You’re not thinking of Reese’s Pieces are you, Amarone?
Dunno - I don’t eat them, whatever they are. My kids eat something called Reese’s something.
Good plan. And why not mail some cheese to your friends in France and some tequila to your friends in Mexico?
I recall being told that Hershey’s Kisses were well liked in England, though I never actually witnessed any Brits begging for some some from us “yanks.” From England I really, really miss Malteesers. They’re like Whoppers only with good chocolate and better malt. OH! And orange Tango…mmmmmmmm. How is it that Americans are the portly ones when England has all those good treats?
Yep. No lardasses in the UK.
And Britain is the epitome of European cuisine.
Yeah, I know Pocky’s Japanese. The point is, it’s easier to get hold of in the USA than in the UK. Little grocery stores in Oxford notwithstanding.
My mates and I like Peeps, but for dismembering and turning into cute little marshmallow porn tableaux, not for eating.
Oh oh oh I know I know!
The lovely and fragrent Rue DeDay sent me a bunch of US candy and I totally loved Tootsie Rolls. Send Tootsie Rolls!
Peeps are also good.
I take back my previous comments about there being nothing worth sending - Tootsie Rolls are great and, at least in 1997, were not available in England.
We have some English friends who love Stove Top Stuffing, though it’s not candy.
I’d just about kill for some Jaffa Cakes…
Johnny, I think the peanut butter cups meet with my approval because they’re chocolate covered. The two flavours go well together - without chocolate, PB makes me gag. Even the smell turns my stomach :(.
Potter, thanks for the heads-up on the Reese’s chocolates at Woolies. Next time I go shopping, I’ll be sure to buy a big stash of the Cups.
By the way, if you want root beer, Sainsbury’s sell it in 2 litre bottles. It’s not quite as foamy as the real American stuff, but it’s good enough to the point where I get through six bottles a week. Asda sell it in cans as well; theirs is slightly sweeter in comparison.
If you want to make your own root beer, leeners.com sell a kit, although it’s somewhat pricey when you include shipping. I bought one for myself and gave another to my friend as a gift, and it really is good once you get the hang of it.
I’ve not seen Barnum’s Animal Carackers here. There are versions, of them, but not in the cute box.
And you have more varieties of Oreos than we do. I brought back minty ones that went down well.
I usually bring back/request a large bag of Jelly Belly Beans - here they are expensive and only come in prepacked bags, which contain an annoying number of cinnamon, root beer and other flavours unpopular in our household.
Speaking of soda, we in the UK are deprived of American grape soda. We just can’t get it!
However recently, I found some imported Grape Fanta cans in a London deli. A whopping 99p a can, unfortunately it is well worth it. YUM!
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or PayDay bars. That’s what my mum sends me every Christmas.
Do you Americans still have those “Fruits of the Forest” flavour Tic-Tacs that you used to do, umm, some time in the late Seventies? They never seemed to make it to this side of the pond. We did have cinnamon-flavoured ones at some point, but they went the way of most cinnamon-flavoured stuff.
Check out Cybercandy. This is where I go for my jerky fix.
Your e-mail is disabled Smash, but if you send me your address (my e-mail’s in my profile) I could probably be persuaded to send you some Luckys in the name of Christmas spirit. They’re one of my weaknesses, so I feel massive pity for anyone unable to get their hands on some…
